A 3-0 sweep of the Lee County Lady Trojan at DeKalb Tennis Center propelled the Lakeside Lady Vikings into the Class 6A girls’ state tennis playoffs Sweet 16 round on Wednesday afternoon.

Lakeside (14-1) jumped out to 1-0 leads in their best-of-three sets matchups and Rowan Scronce brought the Lady Vikings the first point of the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles against Lee County’s Addyson Willis.

Johanna Goebel pulled Lakeside within one victory of taking the match as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lee County’s Ivey Taylor at No. 2 singles.

Nora Grady clinched the match for Lakeside as she broke Lee County’s Hayden Banner’s serve in the final game for a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.

Juliana Scalzini and Jordan Beer had 1-0 set (6-2) lead at No. 1 doubles over Lee County’s Taylor Edwards and Kavya Patel when Grady clinched the win.

Emily Ellingson and Caroline Chrystall were also up one set to none in their No. 2 doubles match against Celia Cook and Trisha Patel.

Lakeside goes on the road to face Woodward Academy, a 5-0 winner over Effingham County in the first round. The date and time will be announced at a later date.

In other Class 6A state playoff action both Dunwoody squads picked up 3-0 road victories in opening round play on Wednesday.

The Dunwoody Wildcats (11-8) brought home the victory following their 3-0 win on the road at Tift County. The Wildcats go on the road to Lakeside-Evans in the Sweet 16 round with date and time to be announced.

Another win came Dunwoody’s way as the Lady Wildcats (10-8) came away with their 3-0 first round victory on the road against Houston County. Dunwoody must go on the road to the winner of the Glynn Academy/Forest Park first round match.
