Speed played a big role in the Cross Keys Indians’ offense and defense as they outran the Bradwell Institute Tigers to a 4-0 victory in their first round Class 5A boys’ state soccer matchup at North DeKalb Stadium on Wednesday night.

Cross Keys (12-2-1) needed only 32 seconds to get on the scoreboard as Eduardo Mora moved slightly right across the goal and nailed the lower left corner of the net for the only goal needed in the win.

Jefferson Diaz took advantage of a good defensive play by Bradwell (12-6-1) in deflecting a shot by beating a defender to the ball and quickly kicking across to the right corner to make it 2-0 with 29:33 remaining in the half.

The Indians almost went up 3-0 in the first half, but an offsides call disallowed the goal with 15:42 to play.

While the offense was having success Cross Keys keeper Kevin Reyes had three first half saves, including one with 21 seconds before half as he knocked a corner kick in the air and then punched it out past the Tigers’ offensive players.

Cross Keys was quick to up the lead to 3-0 as a penalty on the Bradwell keeper for diving into the legs of an onrushing Indians’ player set up a penalty kick. Frank Santillano capitalized on the play with a kick past a diving Jedidiah Samuel for the score.

Jaciel Miranda closed out the scoring with 14 minutes to play as a deflected shot by Bradwell keeper Samuel came his way for the opportunity to hit behind the prone keeper to make the final of 4-0.

Cross Keys plays the winner of No. 1 ranked McIntosh (18-0) and Dutchtown (8-8) in a game that would be scheduled for next Wednesday (4/24).
