The Southwest DeKalb Lady Panthers shut down the Stephenson Lady Jaguars offense in the fourth quarter to seal a 46-30 victory to repeat as the DeKalb County Junior Varsity Basketball girls’ champions in recent tournament action.

Leading by just six points (35-29) heading into the fourth quarter Southwest DeKalb (11-1) limited Stephenson (8-5) to just one made free throw while knocking down 11 points.

Kiera Dickey hit for five of the 11 points for the Lady Panthers and Deasia Kelly added four.

Sonia Bryant hit for five points (1 three-pointer) in the opening period and Joie Files added four as Southwest DeKalb got out to a 15-11 advantage heading into the second quarter. Marquisa Stephens hit for four points and Khalea Latimer added a three-pointer to lead the Lady Jaguars in the first quarter.

Files hit for six of Southwest DeKalb’s 11 second quarter points as they took a 26-19 lead into the half. Stephens and Latimer both had three points for the Lady Jaguars.

Stephenson outdueled Southwest DeKalb 10-9 in a tight third period behind two threes from Latimer and a basket each by Keona Walker and Madison Cooper. Kelly hit for seven of the nine points by Southwest including one three-pointer as the lead was trimmed to six (35-29).

Kelly finished with a game-high 16 points for Southwest DeKalb and Files tacked on 13. Bryant and Dickey added seven points each for the Lady Panthers.

Latimer finished the night with 12 points (4 threes) to lead Stephenson and Stephens added seven.
