The Arabia Mountain Rams pulled away from a 32-32 third quarter tie with good defense in retaining the DeKalb County Junior Varsity Boys’ Basketball Championship title in a 44-37 win over the Decatur Bulldogs.

Decatur (9-2) battled back from a 23-19 halftime deficit to tie the game at 32-32 at the end of third quarter. Cam Frazier hit for seven points in the period, including one from behind the three-point arc, and Elijah Beard added four points.

The Rams turned up the defense and shut down Frazier in the fourth quarter in a 12-5 run to take the win. Jakeir Caines hit for six of the Rams 12 points including two-for-two from the free-throw line to aid the cause.

Decatur jumped out to a 13-10 lead in the opening period behind five points from both Frazier and Hayden Mikes.

The Rams (10-2), who lost 45-42 to Decatur in the regular season, bounced back in the second quarter with 13 points and allowed just six to go up 23-19 at the half. Shawn Granville knocked down six points to lead the charge for Arabia.

Granville finished with a team high 13 points to lead the Rams on offense and Colby Johnson finished with 10 points and was named Most Valuable player for his overall play in the game.

Cam Frazier had a game-high 15 points to lead Decatur.
