Three of the nine DeKalb volleyball teams competing in the first round of the GHSA state playoffs will be hosting matches while the other six go on the road to try to advance.

The McNair Lady Mustangs (18-18) play hosts to Athens Academy (12-25) on Tuesday (Oct. 17) to open the Class 2A state playoffs. McNair earned its first ever home match by finishing as the No. 2 seed in Region 5-2A. McNair is making just its fourth appearance in the state playoffs and first since 2019.

In other Class 2A state playoff action on Tuesday, No. 3 seed Redan (14-17-1) travels to No. 2 seed Banks County (29-9) at 5:30 pm as the Raiders return to the state playoffs after missing out in 2022. Towers (5-18-1) reaches the Class 2A state tournament for the second consecutive season and third overall as the Lady Titans go on the road to No. 1 seed Providence Christian (32-11).

Class 6A state volleyball action includes the No. 4 seed Lakeside Lady Vikings (28-7) heading to No. 1 seed Veterans (28-8-2) for a 5:30 pm match on Tuesday. The Lady Vikings had a 13-year playoff run broken in 2023 and return for the 14th time in 15 seasons.

Class 4A No. 4 seed Southwest DeKalb (18-17) travels to Northwest Georgia to take on No. 1 seed Heritage-Catoosa (27-6) on Tuesday as well. The Lady Panthers are making a second consecutive state tournament appearance.

Four more teams are in action on Wednesday with Chamblee and Cedar Grove in host roles as No. 2 seeds in their respective regions.

Chamblee (20-21) plays host to No. 3 seed Ware County (18-12) in the opening round of the Class 5A state playoffs with first serve set for 5:00 pm. Chamblee is making a 12th consecutive state playoff appearance.

In other Class 5A state playoff opening round matches, No. 3 seed Tucker (17-20) heads to No. 2 seed Greenbrier (17-16) for a 5:00 pm match and No. 4 seed Arabia Mountain (20-16) travels Georgia Southern University’s Hanner Fieldhouse to take on No. 1 seed Statesboro (21-17) at 6:30 pm. Tucker is making its ninth state playoff appearance and second consecutive. Arabia Mountain is in the state playoff for the eighth consecutive season.

Cedar Grove hosts its first round Class 3A state playoff match against Hart County (26-5) at 5:30 pm on Wednesday. It is Cedar Grove’s second consecutive state tournament appearance and third overall.
