Towers junior Nashari Edwards finished in the top 4 of three events in the Class 2A girls state competition including a gold medal in the triple jump to lead Towers to a second consecutive Top 5 finish at state.

The Towers Lady Titans finished in the Top 5 of the Class 2A Girls’ State Track and Field Championships at MeEachern High School in Powder Springs last weekend (May 13) for the third consecutive season.

Despite losing several seniors from their 2021 and 2022 third-place teams the Lady Titans scored 31.50 points to finish fifth in this year’s event. Redan tied for 16th with 13 points and Columbia tied for 30th with five points in the 40-team field. Towers fifth place was one of eight Top 10 finishes for DeKalb County teams.

Junior Nashari Edwards powered the Towers surge scoring 23 points including her gold medal leap in the triple jump of 35-feet, 2 inches. She would go on to take a silver in the 100-meter hurdles (15.65) and a fourth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (48.69).

Junior Tracy Yelegoiyee qualified for state for the Lady Titans and put up a height of 8-feet to tie for fourth in the event.

Redan’s Gabriella Lawrence, a senior, scored five the Lady Raiders 13 points with her fourth-place finish in the triple jump (34-06.0). Redan also had a pair of fifth place finishes including the 4×400-meter relay (4:13.81) and the 4×800-meter relay (10:38.43).

Columbia got in the scoring column as junior Keamaura Robinson place fourth in the long jump (16-11.25.

CLASS 2A BOYS
The Redan Raiders had the highest DeKalb County finish in the Class 2A Boys’ State Track and Field Championships at McEachern High School with a tie for 25th out of 40 teams.

Senior Lodrick Scott had the best performance of the meet placing sixth in the 1600-meter run (4:37.13) and finished in the Top 8 in the 800-meter run (2:05.80). Sophomore Nizer Smith took home a pair eighth-place finishes in the hurdle events.

Eh Blu Wah scored Towers’ lone point of the state meet with his eighth-pace finish in the discus (147-05.0).

CLASS 3A BOYS
The Cedar Grove Saints brought home a one gold medal and one bronze medal in finishing 13th overall out of 42 teams in the Class 3A Boys’ State Track and Field Championships at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany last weekend (May 13).

Senior Solomon Hall captured the gold medal with his toss of 53-feet, 9 inches in the shot put to lead the Saints. Junior Joseph Slaughter collected six points with his bronze medal finish in the 100-meter dash (10.79).

CLASS 3A GIRLS
A pair of juniors combined to score all of the Cedar Grove Lady Saints five points in a 25th place finish at the Class 3A Girls’ State Track and Field Championships at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany last weekend (May 13).

Victoria Taylor scored four points taking fifth in the 400-meter dash (58.16) and Waynijah Kuykendall picked up another point by finishing eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.99).
