The Tucker Tigers put together five medal finishes on the way to a runners-up finish in the Class 5A Boys’ State Track and Field Championships at Kinnett Stadium in Columbus.

Tucker totaled 51 points to finish second behind Dutchtown (99) and ahead of third place Chapel Hill (47). Chamblee and Martin Luther King Jr. finished deadlocked at 20th out of 38 teams with 13 points each.

Junior Hasaan Sykes pulled off the only gold for Tucker winning the long jump with a leap of 22-feet, 5 ¼ inches to take the top spot in the event.

of the high jump and discus. Junior Ian Hodge went over the high jump bar at 6-feet, 6 inches for his silver.

Junior John Pacely duplicated Hodge’s silver as he tossed the discus 168-feet, 10 inches in his competition. Senior Connor Whaley went 156-01 to take fourth in the discus.

The Tucker 4×100-meter relay team of Jordan McCoy, Ethan Sanders, Hasaan Sykes and Christian Whitmore ran a 41.46 to bring home another silver for the Tigers as they finished just .02 seconds behind Dutchtown.

Whitmore, a junior, placed third in the 200-meter dash in 21.79 to haul in a bronze medal.

Martin Luther King was led by Omari Sawyer’s silver medal in the 800-mete run (1:56.64) to pick up eight points for the Lions. The 4×800-meter relay team made up of Kameron Sutton, Braylin Grier, Jordan Saunders and Sawyer added five points with a fourth-place finish.

Chamblee’s scoring was fueled by a pair of senior bronze medalists in the discus and 800-meter run. Elijah Powell took third in the discus with a toss of 44-feet, 10.5 inches and William Elder finished just 0.06 seconds behind King’s Sawyer in the 800-meter run taking third in 1:56.70.

CLASS 5A GIRLS
Arabia Mountain (seventh) and Tucker (tie for ninth) gave DeKalb County two of its eight Top 10 team finishes at state with their performances in the Class 5A Girls’ State Track and Field Championships at Kinnett Stadium in Columbus.

Greater Atlanta Christian won the state title with 61 points with Arabia totaling 34 and Tucker 27. Chamblee finished in the Top 15 with 19 points and Martin Luther King put up eight points to finish in 26th out of 40 teams.

Arabia Mountain senior Davenae Fagan put on quite a show in the sprint events winning two gold medals and one silver to account for 28 of Arabia’s 34 points.

Fagan had won all three events in the Region 4-5A Championships before heading to the State Sectional. She opened the state meet with a silver medal finish in the 100-meter dash (11.71) 0.20 seconds behind the winner, but also a Top 10 time in Georgia this season.

She went on to sweep the 200-meter dash (23.73) and the 400-meter dash (54.90) to become a two-time gold medalist in state competition. Her 200 time was also a Georgia Top 10 mark and the 400 was an USA Top 50 mark.

Junior Ava Amey took a bronze medal in the 100-meter hurdles (14.91) to round out the scoring for Arabia Mountain.

Tucker’s tie for ninth was topped by Katelyn Mendoza with 12 points including eight with a second-place finish in the shot put (37-0.50) for the silver.

Nijah Lewis contributed nine points to the cause including her bronze medal finish in the long jump at 17-feet, 10 inches.

Chamblee picked up eight points from senior Naa Adua Annan which including eight from her silver medal in the long jump (17-10.75). Sophomore Emi Sarago added five points with a fourth-place finish in the pole vault (10-0.0).

CLASS 6A GIRLS
The Dunwoody Lady Wildcats finished 16th over all out of 40 teams in the Class 6A Girls’ State Track and Field Championships at Baron Stadium in Rome.
Lakeside ended in a tie for 32nd with four points in the championships.

Dunwoody got a pair of bronze medals to take home including from senior Anderson Bowe in the discus (137-08.0) and junior Claire Shelton in the 3200-meter run (10:52.16).

Sophomore Carmen Pollard picked up the four Lakeside points with a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (56.58).

CLASS 6A BOYS
The Lakeside Vikings finished 31st out of 38 teams in the Class 6A Boys’ Track and Field State Championships at Baron Stadium in Rome.

Junior Jean Luc Noisin scored three of the 3.5 points with a sixth-place finish in the long jump (21-11.75).
