The Redan Raiders head into the second round of the Class 2A state high school baseball playoffs with a doubleheader in the best-of-three series against Rockmart set for Saturday at 11:00 am at Gresham Park.
Redan (18-10) is coming off a 9-2, 13-0 sweep of Drew in the opening round last Monday after entering the playoffs as the Region 5-2A champion.
Senior Yanick Butler pitched six innings in the 9-2 opening game win. He finished with eight strikeouts. Sophomore Daelyn House followed that up going five innings in the 13-0 victory with five strikeouts.
Senior catcher Adriel Martinez provided some fire power in the two-game series going a combined 5-6 with four RBI and senior shortstop/pitcher Bernard Moon was right behind at 4-6 with a home run and four RBI.
Junior infielder Tyrel Wyatt was 3-5 on the day with 1 RBI and sophomore outfielder Collin Brightwell finished 3-5 at the plate as well.
Rockmart (19-10) is coming off a sweep on the road at Banks County winning 4-3 and 3-1 after entering the playoffs as the No. 3 seed out of Region 7.
The two teams enter the matchup with one common opponent in Cedartown. Rockmart split a pair of one-run games with Cedartown (4-5, 2-1) while Redan holds a 12-6 win over Cedartown back on April 7.
The doubleheader, weather permitting, starts at 11:00 am with the second game to follow approximately 30 minutes later. A third game, if necessary, is set for a 4:00 pm start on Monday at Gresham Park.
If Redan wins, the team hosts the third round against the winner of Worth County and Appling County on Saturday, May 6.
