The Lassiter Trojans scored eight goals within the first eight minutes on the way to an 18-6 Class 5A/6A girls’ lacrosse state playoff match against the Lakeside Lady Vikings at Lassiter on Wednesday evening.

Lakeside playing in the program’s first lacrosse playoff game in program history got off to a rocky start falling behind 4-0 in the first four and a half minutes.

Lassiter’s Sophia Hortman got the Trojans (10-6) on the board first just 52 seconds into the game crossing in front of the goal and finding the net.

Caitlin Gavin and Lacey Scherholz both scored two goals in the 9-0 run to start the game for Lassiter.

Emma Linscott got Lakeside (10-8-1) on the board scoring back-to-back goals in a span of one minute and 45 seconds to cut the lead to 9-2 with 9:58 to play in the first half.

Ava Menna scored her second and third goals of the game and Scherholz scored her third in the final 8:15 of the game as Lassiter continued to pull ahead by a score of 13-2 with five minutes left in the half.

Reagan Flanagan scored for Lakeside with 2:36 left in the half to make it a 13-3 deficit at the half.

Linscott opened the second half with a goal just one minute and 25 seconds in to make it 13-4.

Lassiter answered with five unanswered goals including two by Kyla Caimano and Gavin picking up her third of game.

Linscott knocked down her fourth goal of the game for Lakeside to make it 18-5 with 5:37 t play. Flanagan picked up her second goal of the game as she picked up a rebound off the keeper and put it in the net to make the final of 18-6.

After a tough start Lakeside keeper Kate Haynes finished the first half with six saves after facing 17 shots from the Lassiter attack. She would finish with nine on the game.

CLASS 5A/6A BOYS
A banged-up Dunwoody Wildcat team travelled to Allatoona for a first-round match against the Buccaneers and fell 18-7 to wind up the season with a loss in the Class 5A/6A state playoffs on Tuesday.

Dunwoody had opened the season with a 10-0 start and finished 13-6.

The Southwest DeKalb Lady Panthers (1-12) fell 18-2 to Fellowship Christian on Thursday in the Class 1A/4A playoff match.
