Christian Kenerly knocked down both ends of a one-and-one trip to the free throw line with 7.4 seconds to push the Redan Raiders to a 41-39 home win over the Westminster Wildcats in Region 5-3A boys’ basketball action on Tuesday night.

Westminster’s Zeke Harpe had scored on a layup with 18 seconds to play to knot the game at 39-39.

Redan (7-6, 4-2) got the ball up court and called timeout with 9.4 seconds left in the contest. Out of the timeout Kenerly was fouled driving the baseline to set up the winning opportunity.

A pull up jumper with two seconds to play by Westminster’s Kamden Coleman came off the rim and Taron Williams grabbed the rebound to lock down the win for the Raiders.

Westminster had led 24-18 at the half after pulling away from an 8-8 tie at the end of first quarter.

Redan regrouped at the half and clamped down on defense to limit the Wildcats (7-7, 1-5) to just three points in the third quarter. Trailing 27-26 with 4:13 to play in the third period the Raiders went on a 6-0 run led by Jayden Davis’ four points to take a 32-27 advantage into the final quarter.

Harpe put Westminster on his back scoring nine points in the final stanza including a drive to the basket with 2:32 to play to put his squad ahead 35-34.

A Coleman basket with 1:30 left on the clock put Westminster up 37-35. The lead only lasted 28 seconds as Redan’s Xavian Green got a put-back and drew a foul with 1:02 to play. His basket tied the game and his free throw put the Raiders up 38-37.

Davis hit one of two free throws with 35.4 seconds left for a 39-37 Redan lead before Harpe hit the tying basket with 18 seconds to play.

Kenerly finished with 15 points and 5 rebounds to lead the Raiders and Davis scored all nine of his points in the second half. Taron Williams added 6 points and 8 rebounds for the Raiders off the bench.

Harpe finished with 13 points, 9 in the final period, to lead Westminster.

GIRLS: Westminster 59, Redan 39
Westminster led by as much as 21 in the third quarter on the way to the 59-39 win over the Redan Lady Raiders in a Region 5-3A girls’ contest.

Stella Chartrand hit two three-pointers and two free throws and Courtney Ogden added four more in the first three minutes of the second half to extend the Wildcats’ lead to 42-21 with 4:11 to play in the period.

Redan found itself for a while and went on a 10-0 run to end the third quarter to cut the lead to 42-31. Cameron Cooper hit a three and then hit a layup off a feed from Jayla Cook with nine seconds left in the quarter to pull the Raiders within 11 going into the final quarter.

Ariel Bellard’s put back with 6:31 to play pulled Redan within 42-33, but the Raiders would get no closer as Ella Freeman knocked two free throws and Chartrand got away under the basket, took a pass from Ogden and laid the ball in for a 46-33 lead.

Westminster outscored the Raiders 13-4 the rest of the way to close out the 59-39 win.

Ogden finished with 27 points and 10 rebounds to lead Westminster while collecting her 1,000th career point in the game. Chartrand added 15 points and 6 rebounds for Westminster (4-9, 4-2).

Kennedy Daniels finished with 13 points to lead the Raiders (11-5, 4-2) and Carmen Cooper finished with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Jayla Cook finished with 9 points, including a buzzer beating layup at the end of the first half that gave her 1,000 career points.
