Druid Hills boys win thriller over Henderson in midweek action. Champion and Chapel Hill girls and Tucker boys stay undefeated.

Djimon McLendon’s shot with six seconds remaining on the game clock propelled the Druid Hills Dragons to an exciting 48-46 win over the Henderson Cougars in boys’ middle school basketball action on Wednesday night.

As the DeKalb County Middle School Basketball season is winding down with just three games left before the County Championships big plays could decide a team’s seeding. McLendon’s shot improved the Dragons record to 8-2 overall as they lead the Region 2 standings with a one-game lead on Champion. The two teams face off in the final game of the record season. Stone Richards had 14 points to lead the Dragons.

Tucker 60, Salem 23
The Tucker Tigers (10-0) remained undefeated on the season behind a game-high 28 points by Jakobi Williams on the way to a 60-23 non-region win over the Salem Lions (2-8). Williams also added 5 assists in the game. Donovan Smith hit for 16 points for the Tigers and Octavius Gresham added 9 points and 6 assists. Emontae Gourdine had 15 points, 2 assists and 4 rebounds to lead Salem.

Champion 43, Peachtree 35
The Champion Chargers (4-6) broke a five-game losing streak with a 43-35 defensive battle with the Peachtree Patriots (4-7). Jimmy Mottox led a balanced offensive attack for Champion with 10 points. The defensive pressure was led by carlin Cabbil, Jacoby Huff and Jackson Ushery.

Cedar Grove 31, Bethune 19
In a game delayed a day due to a power outage the Cedar Grove Saints (9-1, 5-1) knocked off Region 4 foe Bethune (6-5, 4-3) 31-19 in another defensive battle. Manny Green was the top performer for the Saints with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. The Lions were led by Emmanuel Green with 11 and Jaylon Phillips 8.

Redan 58, Lithonia 41
The Redan Raiders (8-1, 6-0) bounced back from their first loss of the season last week with a 58-41 Region 3 victory over the Lithonia Bulldogs (2-7, 2-3). Noah Milton and Jordan Francis both hit for 14 points to lead the Region 3 leader Raiders in the win.

Stephenson 44, McNair 39
The Stephenson Jaguars (2-7) stepped out of Region 2 play to grab a 44-39 win over the McNair Mustangs (1-10) of Region 4. Immanuel Zandy was the top scorer for Stephenson with 12 points followed by Shannon James Jr. with 11 points and Reginald Smith adding 9 points and 10 rebounds.

Columbia 43, Chapel Hill 37
Caleb Winfrey scored 19 points and had 7 assists for the Chapel Hill Panthers (5-5, 3-4) in a 43-37 Region 4 loss to the Columbia Eagles (9-2, 5-2). Columbia is in second place and hosts Region 4 leader Cedar Grove in a big game next Wednesday.

Chamblee 67, Sequoyah 12
The Chamblee Bulldogs (8-2, 4-2) moved a step closer to solidifying a o. 2 seed out of Region 1 with a 67-12 win over Sequoyah (0-9, 0-8) on Wednesday. Christopher Oliver and Bryant Swanson were the driving forces in the win for Chamblee.

Freedom 48, Miller Grove 33
The Freedom Rams (4-6, 3-3) knocked off Miller Grove (5-5, 3-4) 48-33 in a Region 3 match-up on Wednesday. King Hernandez scored 29 points and Mojwok Ajobong added 13 in the win for the Rams.

GIRLS RECAPS
Champion and Chapel Hill both improved to 10-0 on the season in girls’ middle school basketball action with wins on Wednesday as the playoffs loom in three weeks.

Region 2 leader Champion (10-0, 4-0) gave Region 1 second place Peachtree (9-2, 5-1) just its second loss on the season with a 52-10 win. Lauren Chavis topped the scoring with 14 points (8 rebounds) for Champion and Charmaine Owens contributed 13 points (4 steals).

Chapel Hill 44, Columbia 7
Kendall Campbell had a big double-double (17 points, 13 rebounds) to aid Chapel Hill (10-0, 7-0) to its 44-7 Region 4 win over the Columbia Eagles (6-5, 3-4). Zariyah Baugh (8 points, 12 rebounds, 4 steals), Joie Files (9 points, 4 rebounds, 7 steals, 4 assists) and Deasia Kelly (6 points, 9 rebounds, 9 steals, 3 assists) were also big contributors in the victory.

Stephenson 42, McNair 7
The Stephenson Jaguars (7-2) won a non-region meeting with the McNair Mustangs (1-10) 42-7. Kamryn Larkin knocked down 16 points and Cyncere Sims-Turner added 10 in the win for the Jaguars.

Miller Grove 37, Freedom 17
The Miller Grove Wolverines (7-2, 4-2) won a key Region 3 battle with the Freedom Rams 37-17. Miller Grove is currently in second place in Region 3 behind a 19-point performance by Bailee Canty.

Redan 34, Lithonia 17
The Redan Raiders (5-4, 4-3) are solidly in third place in the Region 3 standings following their 34-17 victory over the Lithonia Bulldogs (2-7, 0-5). Aubri Brooks had 8 points for the Raiders to go along with a 7-point, 7-rebound performance by Keana Wilder and 7 points from Kaylan Whitfield.

Chamblee 33, Sequoyah 8
The Chamblee Bulldogs (7-3, 6-0) remained in first place in Region 1 with a 33-8 win over the Sequoyah Braves (0-9, 0-8) on Wednesday. Elizabeth Taylor had 4 points for Chamblee. Leily Venancio led Sequoyah with 3 points while Rasheeda Shabazz and Alexa Augilar added 2 points each.

Bethune 24, Cedar Grove 14
The Bethune Lions (6-4, 6-1) sit in second place in Region 4 following a 24-14 win over the Cedar Grove Saints (1-8, 0-6). Makayla Coleman had 10 points to lead Bethune. Janecia Stroud had 7 points for Cedar Grove.

In other scores Salem (8-1) bounced back from its first loss of the season to defeat Tucker (4-6) 34-7.
