Six individuals and the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs team qualified to compete in the GHSA State Gymnastics Championships set for the Buford City Schools Arena beginning today (April 22) through Saturday (April 24).

Chamblee begins competition in the team preliminaries beginning at 1:00 pm today along with the rest of the Class 1A-5A teams. The Lady Bulldogs qualified eighth overall for the team competition.

Competitors for Chamblee in the team competition includes senior Dorothy Boise (Floor), sophomores Lillian Zaidel (all events) and Esther Strambler (uneven bars) and freshmen Sarah Wolf (all events), Rachel McGuiness (all events), Samantha Myers (balance beam) and Emily Myers (vault).

Five DeKalb schools are represented in the individual state qualifiers that begin competition on Friday at 11:00.

Lakeside senior Emma Cohen will compete in the All-Around and all four events (vault, uneven bars, beam, floor). Cohen was the All-Round champion (35.75) at the 2021 DCSD Gymnastics Championships and also won the gold in the floor exercise (9.00)

Chamblee has a pair vying in individual championships in freshmen Sarah Wolf (bars, vault, beam, All-Around) and Rachel McGuiness (beam). Wolf was second in the DCSD Gymnastics Championships All-Around competition (35.20) and took the gold in the uneven bars (9.20) and balance beam (8.70). McGuiness was fourth in the All-Around (33.450) at the county championships with a silver in the balance beam (8.50) and a tie for the bronze in the floor (8.50).

Dunwoody sophomore Lyla Biggs qualified in the vault. Biggs finished fifth in the county All-Around (30.85).

Arabia Mountain senior Ashlyn Carthan is set to compete in the floor exercise. She took sixth overall in the All-Around (30.10) at county and tied for the bronze in the floor exercise (8.50).

Southwest DeKalb sophomore Gabby Pecke is set to compete in the All-Around, bars, vault and floor events. Pecke was third in the county in the All-Around (34.85) winning the vault (9.65) and tied for the silver in the floor (8.60).

The state finals are scheduled for Saturday (April 24) beginning at 11:00 am at the Buford City Schools Arena.
