Lithonia wins fifth consecutive game in boys’ action; Stephenson remains undefeated in girls’ play.

Since a 58-43 loss to Region 2 leader Champion on November 16 the Lithonia Bulldogs have put together a five-game winning following a 45-35 win over Beacon Hill on Wednesday night.

Lithonia (6-1, 5-1) turned up the defensive pressure in the second half to pull away from Beacon Hill (2-3, 2-2). Caleb Cooper and Anthony Flournoy scored 15 points each in the win. Michael Cook hit for 13 points to lead Beacon Hill.

Lithonia solidified its spot as third in Region 2 just one loss behind Champion (6-0, 5-0) and Salem (5-0, 4-0) in the standings. Teams wrap up the first half of the season on Saturday before heading into the holiday break.

BOYS RECAPS
Redan bounced back from its first loss of the season last weekend with a 59-44 victory over the Stephenson Jaguars (3-3, 2-3).

The Raiders (6-1, 5-1) had a pair of players go over 20 points in the game including Tristan Mitchell (22 points, 5 steals, 6 rebounds, 6 assists) and Amare Medhin (21 points, 4 steals, 3 assists). Kaden Watson contributed 9 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals in the win.

Chapel Hill 48, Columbia 14
A balanced attack benefitted the Chapel Hill Panthers (4-2, 4-1) on the way to a 48-14 Region 1 win over the Columbia Eagles (0-6, 0-5). Nazir Mergan (9 points) teamed up with Keshawn George (8 points) and Jacob Reid (8 points) in a three-pronged attack.

Chamblee 64, Tucker 39
In Region 2 play the Chamblee Bulldogs (3-4, 3-3) fueled by the play of Ellison Eily and Eston McDow ran away to a 64-39 win over the Tucker Tigers (1-4, 1-3). Eily hit for 18 points and McDow added 15 as the pair both hit for double figures in the game.

In other Region 1 action the Miller Grove Wolverines (2-4, 2-3) knocked over the McNair Mustangs (1-4, 1-3) 44-28 to move up in the standings.

GIRLS RECAPS
A 46-18 Region 1 win over the Redan Lady Raiders (3-4, 3-3) sends the Stephenson Lady Jaguars (6-0, 5-0) into Saturday undefeated and atop the region standings. Loriel Murry keyed the victory hitting for a game-high 24 points as the only Stephenson player in double figures.

Chapel Hill 41, Columbia 13
A pair of Chapel Hill Lady Panthers (5-1, 5-0) hit double figures to help their team into second place in Region 1 with a 41-13 win over the Columbia Lady Eagles (4-2, 2-2). Jade Redding (3 assists, 3 steals) scored 14 points to lead they while Mauri Barnes (2 steals) had 13 points. Avontie Gilreath provided a solid night with 5 points, 5 blocked shots and 8 rebounds.

Beacon Hill 40, Lithonia 20
A stifling defense and a three-headed offensive attack helped the Beacon Hill Lady Bulldogs (4-1, 4-0) move into third place in the Region 2 standings in a 40-20 win over the Lithonia Lady Bulldogs (2-5, 2-4). Nadiya Mohamed was tops on offense with 13 points while Ryan Elmahdi and Kendale Lanier hit for eight points each.

The defense was led by Leighellen Lucas, Lucy Wallace and Maya Dickison.

Chamblee 36, Tucker 11
The Chamblee Lady Bulldogs (5-2, 4-2) moved solidly into fourth place in the Region 2 standings with a 36-11 win over the Tucker Lady Tigers (1-4, 1-3). The win was orchestrated by Sofia Marek with 13 points and Sara Adekunle with 11 points.

In other Region 1 play Miller Grove (1-5, 1-4) picked up its first win of the season 24-13 over the McNair Lady Mustangs (0-5, 0-4).
