Bethune knocks Redan from the ranks of the unbeatens in a Region 1 42-36 win last Saturday.

The Bethune Lions remained undefeated in boys’ middle school basketball play via a 42-36 win over the previously unbeaten Redan Raiders last Saturday night.

Bethune (4-0, 3-0) took over the top of the Region 1 standings with the victory over Redan (5-1, 4-1). Ke’Shawn Briggs led a trio of Lions that contributed to the win as he scored 14 points. Mekyrius Miller had a solid all-around game with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Rashaad Silver scored 8 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as a force on the defensive end.

BOYS RECAPS
Chapel Hill 57, Miller Grove 23
The Chapel Hill Panthers (3-2) upped their Region 1 mark to 3-1 on the season by knocking off the Miller Grove Wolverines (1-4, 1-3) 57-23 in action on Saturday. Braylen Carter stroked the nets for a game-high 24 points to lead Chapel Hill.

Champion 58, Chamblee 46
Down one of the team’s top players, the Champion Chargers (6-0, 5-0) kept their unbeaten mark intact with a hard-fought 58-46 Region 2 win over the Chamblee Bulldogs. With team leader Akil Robinson out for the game Jackson Ushery (23 points) and Carlin Cabbil (20 points) stepped up big as both hit the 20-point mark in the game. Rance McKenzie added 6 points.

The Bulldogs (2-4, 2-3) got an outstanding 17-point, 7-assists performance from Eston McDow.

Lithonia 43, Peachtree 33
Some halftime adjustments helped the Lithonia Bulldogs (5-1, 4-1) pull away from the Peachtree Patriots (2-5, 2-4) for a 43-33 win. Caleb Cooper fueled the second half surge finishing with 17 points, 4 blocked shots and 8 rebounds. Armani Myco added 9 points, 4 assists and 3 steals for the Bulldogs.

Freedom 40, Columbia 30
The Freedom Rams (2-4, 2-3) defeated the Columbia Eagles (0-5, 0-4) 40-30 in Region 1 play on Saturday. Mojowk Ajobong and Cornelius Jackson both hit double figures scoring 14 points each in the win.

Cedar Grove 51, Beacon Hill 27
The Cedar Grove Saints (4-3, 3-3) evened their Region 2 record at 3-3 knocking off the Beacon Hill Bulldogs (2-2, 2-1) 51-27. Tayson Blount finished the night with a team-high 18 points and 6 steals to lead the Saints. Chace Boyce chipped in 13 points and 3 steals and Kin Parrom added 8 points and 11 rebounds.

Tucker 51, Sequoyah 5
A pair of Tigers were in double figures to lead Tucker (1-3, 1-2) to a 51-5 Region 2 win over the Sequoyah Braves (0-6, 0-5) last Saturday. Sterling Pritchett hit for 12 points and Nehemiah Johnson followed with 11 points for the Tigers. Tucker’s DeCarlo Dickerson added 8 points.

Druid Hills 46, Stephenson 32
The Druid Hills Dragons (5-1, 4-1) moved into a tie for second place in Region 1 via a 46-32 victory over the Stephenson Jaguars (3-2, 2-2). Stone Richards hit for a game-high 24 points for the Dragons.

McNair 24, Stone Mountain 21
The McNair Mustangs (1-3, 1-2) nipped the Stone Mountain Pirates (2-4, 1-4) 24-21 in Region 1 play on Saturday to pick up their first win of the season. Carlos Lemmons hit for 11 points in the win.

In other action Salem (5-0, 4-0) remained undefeated taking down Henderson (2-5, 1-5) 50-16 in Region 2 play.

GIRLS RECAPS
The Champion Lady Chargers (6-0, 5-0) stayed one game ahead of Salem in the Region 2 girls’ standings with a 58-19 win over the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs (4-2, 3-2). Champion got a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds from Jhia Primrose in the win and Charmaine Owens (14 points, 8 assists, 4 steals) and Essence Grier (11 points) both hit double figures. Lailah Cox had 8 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists while Kamaya Rivers-Childs added 6 points for Champion.

Chapel Hill 57, Miller Grove 28
The Chapel Hill Lady Panthers (4-1) moved into a first-place tie in the regions standings with Stephenson at 4-0 following a 57-28 victory over the Miller Grove Lady Wolverines (0-5, 0-4). Mauri Barnes had the hot hand for Chapel Hill hitting for a game-high 32 points (4 assists, 3 steals). Her teammates contributed well to the win including Janise McCoy (6 points, 12 assists, 8 steals), Jade Redding (9 points) and Avantie Gilreath (8 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks).

Columbia 19, Freedom 18
The Columbia Lady Eagles (4-1, 2-1) picked up their fourth win of the year in a thrilling 19-18 win over the Freedom Lady Rams (1-5, 1-3). Destiny Swint (2 steals) and Grace Kasongo (5 rebounds, 3 steals) headed up the Freedom charge with 6 points each in the contest. Gabrielle Mitchell (4 points, 2 steals) and Aoure Saria (2 points, 8 rebounds) also played a role for the Lady Rams.

Stone Mountain 20, McNair 5
The Stone Mountain Lady Pirates (2-4, 1-4) notched their second win of the season with a 20-5 Region 1 win over the McNair Lady Mustangs (0-4, 0-3). Mya Sales (7 points, 2 assists, 2 blocks) and DaNahri Dent (6 points, 3 assists) combined to lead Stone Mountain in the victory.

Beacon Hill 29, Cedar Grove 22
The Beacon Hill Lady Bulldogs (3-1, 3-0) got past the Cedar Grove Lady Saints (4-3, 3-3) 29-22 in Region 2 competition. Nadiya Mohamed (13 points) and Ryan Elmahdi (11 points) were the leading scorers. Maya Dickinson and Jariya Lester were contributors on the defensive end.

Stephenson 37, Druid Hills 24
The Stephenson Lady Jaguars (5-0, 4-0) remained one of the three undefeated girls’ team as we close in on the holiday break as they knocked off the Druid Hills Lady Dragons (4-2, 3-2) 37-24. Loriel Murray was he team leader with 13 points and Jayla Walton joined her in double figures with 10. Faith Fuller (8 points), Cyncere Sims-Turner (4 points) and Ji’Asiah Coggins (2 points) all contributed to the win.

Other games include Lithonia (2-4, 2-3) downing Peachtree (2-5, 2-4) 15-11, Bethune (3-1, 2-1) winning a tight won against Redan (3-3, 3-2) 32-29 and Tucker (1-3, 1-2) 15-2 over Sequoyah (0-6, 0-5).
