Lakeside (boys), Dunwoody (boys) and Dunwoody (girls) all came away with big wins in the second round of the Class 6A state tennis playoffs on Tuesday.

The Vikings from Lakeside rolled to a 5-0 win over Effingham County at DeKalb Tennis Center in the lone home match of the day to advance to the Elite Eight round of the Class 6A boys’ state tennis playoffs.

Andy Moelich got the Vikings (14-2) off to a quick start with a quick 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Effingham’s Braden Williams at No. 2 singles to put the Vikings up 1-0 in the match.

Luke Santucci closed out a win at No. 3 singles taking down Effingham’s Gavin Alredge 6-3, 6-0 to make it a 2-0 advantage for Lakeside while the three remaining matches continued play.

The No. 2 doubles duo of Chase Rothberger and Tommy Ellett pulled away for a 6-3, 6-2 win over Effingham’s Weston Summers and Bay Luke.

Wynnton Martin and Sam Fournier cruised to a 6-0 opening set win over Drew Greene and Gabe Jagan but had to battle in the second set to pull out a 7-6 tiebreaker to close out the win at No. 1 doubles.

Julian Santucci battled with Caleb McElveen at No. 1 singles to pull out a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 win to close out the final match.

The Vikings play host to defending state champion Johns Creek at 3:30 pm on Monday at the DeKalb Tennis Center with an eye on reaching the state semifinals. Johns Creek advance to the third round with a 4-0 win over Habersham.

(B) Dunwoody 3, Lakeside-Evans 0
The Dunwoody Wildcats returned home on Tuesday with a 3-0 Sweet 16 win in Class 6A boys’ tennis state playoff action on the road in Evans versus Lakeside.

Bobby Kitchin rolled to a 6-0,6-2 win at No. 1 singles and Luca Ramondino followed suit at No. 2 singles taking a 6-2, 6-0 straight set victory.

Avery Watts and David Strasberg teamed up at No. 1 doubles fighting to a 6-3, 7-5 win to clinch the victory. Ryan Halligan was up a set at No. 3 singles winning a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-1) and was trailing 2-3 in the second set when the match ended.

Ethan Halliwell and Zach Brett dropped the first set at No. 2 doubles 4-6 and were tied 4-4 in the second as the match was ended.

Dunwoody (12-8) gets their first home match of the playoffs as Blessed Trinity travels to take on the Wildcats at Dunwoody. A date and time have yet to be announced. Blessed Trinity advanced to the third round with a 3-0 win over North Forsyth.

(G) Dunwoody 3, Glynn Academy 1
The Dunwoody Lady Wildcats went to Brunswick to take on Glynn Academy and picked up a 3-1 road victory in the Class 6A girls’ second round match.

Sophia Mei steamed to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles to get the Lady Wildcats (11-8) headed toward the victory. Celia Carter and Hannah Price teamed up at No. 1 doubles for a 6-0, 6-0 straight set win to give Dunwoody a 2-0 edge.

Glynn picked up a win at No. 2 singles as Dunwoody’s Natalie Newman dropped a 0-6, 2-6 match.

Sophia Hatch and Lisa McCown put together a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles to clinch the win for Dunwoody. Mei Stallard dropped the first set 5-7 at No. 1 singles and the match was not finished due to Dunwoody clinching the win.

Dunwoody moves on to the Elite 8 play their first home match of the playoffs as the Lady Wildcats host Pope. A date and time have yet to be announced.

The Chamblee tennis teams won on Monday to advance with the girls’ having a quick turnaround and host Northview on Thursday at 1:00 pm at Chamblee. The Bulldogs (13-3) are scheduled to host Centennial on Monday at 1:00 pm.
