The Sweet 16 round of the GHSA high school state soccer playoffs begin this week including six DeKalb County teams playing for a berth in the quarterfinals beginning with Class 5A girls’ action on Tuesday.

The Tucker Lady Tigers (12-7-1) open the second round of the Class 5A girls’ state playoffs by hosting Northside (11-6-1) of Columbus at 6:00 pm at Adams Stadium. Tucker knocked off Statesboro 2-1 behind two goals by Gabby Cole to advance to the second round.

The No. 10 ranked Chamblee Lady Bulldogs (9-6-3), the defending Class 5A girls’ champion, hosts the No. 6 ranked McIntosh Lady Chiefs (13-3-1) in a 6:30 pm game at North DeKalb Stadium tonight. Chamblee advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 10-0 victory over Coffee last week.

Three DeKalb boys’ squads hit the pitch on Wednesday in Class 5A playoff action led by No. 1 seed Tucker (7-9-2) playing host to the Northgate Vikings (7-9-2) in a match set for 7:30 pm at Adams Stadium. Tucker defeated Coffee 6-1 in the opening round to advance to the Sweet 16.

Region 4-6A No. 2 seed Cross Keys (12-2-1) head to Peachtree City to take on No. 1 ranked McIntosh (19-0-0) in the second round with match time set for 8:00 pm. Cross Keys moved into the Sweet 16 with a 4-0 home win over Bradwell Institute last week.

The Chamblee Bulldogs (8-9-1) go on the road for the second week in a row with a trip to Stockbridge to take on Eagle’s Landing (7-2-1). Chamblee knocked off Statesboro 3-0 last week to reach the Sweet 16.

In Class 4A boys’ play on Friday, the No. 6 ranked Druid Hills Red Devils head up to Gainesville to face off with No. 1 ranked Johnson (15-1-1) at 7:30 pm. Druid Hills earned their Sweet 16 berth with a 2-0 road win over Cedartown last Friday night.
