The Lakeside Vikings opened the 2024 Class 6A Boys’ State Tennis Playoffs with a quick 4-0 win over Thomas County Central on Monday afternoon at DeKalb Tennis Center to advance to the Sweet 16.

Andy Moelich (12-1) picked up the first win of the day for the Vikings (13-2) with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Thomas County Central’s CJ Covington in a clean slate to start the run.

Three other matches wrapped up simultaneously at No. 1 singles, No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles.

The doubles duo of Wynnton Martin and Sam Fournier (11-2) broke the serve of Thomas County Central’s Demarion Clarke to complete another 6-0, 6-0 win as they took the No. 1 doubles point over Clarke and teammate Jackson Millings.

Senior Julian Santucci (12-2) closed out another 6-0, 6-0 victory as he served out the match against Praxton White to clinch the team match.

Finishing up right after was No. 3 singles plyer Luke Santucci with another 6-0, 6-0 as he served out his match for the victory as well.

The No. 2 doubles team of Chase Rothberger and Tommy Ellett were leading 6-0, 3-0 over Thomas County Central’s Cameron Jones and Hrley Layton as the Vikings did not lose a game in any of the five matches.

CLASS 4A BOYS
DeKalb did not fare as well in the Class 4A boys’ state playoff action as both Clarkston and Druid Hills were knocked out in the first round.

Druid Hills (25-6) fine season ended in a 3-1 loss to Central (12-4) in Carrollton on Monday afternoon. Clarkston also fell in first round play in a 3-0 loss on the road at Sonoraville.

CLASS 2A BOYS
The Redan Raiders wrapped up their 2024 tennis season with a road loss at Athens Academy. Athens Academy took the opening round match 3-0 to advance to the Sweet 16.

Nine DeKalb teams hit the courts in first round state tournament action on Wednesday with Chamblee hosting both a girls’ and a boy’s match in the only home matches on the day.

The Lady Bulldogs (8-6) play host to Greenbrier at 10:00 am in Class 5A with the Bulldogs (11-3) following at 12:00 am against Ware County at Chamblee High School.

In other Class 5A play, Tucker’s boys (4-7) and girls (4-7) head to Statesboro for a 2:00 pm start. The Martin Luther King Jr. (6-5) girls travel to Coffee (12-2) for a 1:00 pm scheduled match and the Arabia Mountain boys are also at Coffee (12-2) with the match set for 2:00 pm.

In Class 4A girls’ play Druid Hills and Clarkston both travel for their first round matches. Druid Hills (25-10) heads to Sonoraville for a 12:00 pm start while Clarkston is set for a 4:00 pm contest at Central in Carrollton.

Redan opens Class 2A action with a road trip to Fellowship Christian with match time set for 4:00 pm.
