The Arabia Mountain Lady Rams jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back on the way to a 66-29 win over the Decatur Bulldogs to win the Region 4-5A girls’ championship at Tucker on Friday night.

Shanya Heath scored the first five points on a drive to the basket and a three-pointer to get Arabia Mountain (24-2) rolling. Heath would go on to score 21 first half points including her fourth three of the half with 1:22 remaining to put the Rams up 43-13.

Jhia Primrose led Arabia with eight points in the second half and Angelina Billingsley had four points and five rebounds to continue the runaway over Decatur (8-13).

Heath finished with game-high 22 points playing sparingly in the second half with the game well in hand. Billingsley finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Charmaine Owens added 12 points. Decatur got 12 points from Nadiya Mohamed and 11 points and 7 rebounds from Bailey Butler.

BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP
Decatur 64, Tucker 61
Decatur’s Alden Daniels hit a three-pointer from the corner with 15 seconds to play to send the Bulldogs to a 64-61 win over the Tucker Tigers in the Region 4-5A boys’ championship game at Tucker.

The game was tied 61-61 on a basket by Tucker’s Josiah Lawson with 43 seconds to play to knot the game for the seventh time. Decatur got the ball after a timeout and moved down court where Daniels found enough room in the corner to get off the three for the game winner.

Lawson shot a contested three just before the buzzer that rimmed out to just miss tying the game for the eighth time.

Tucker (21-5) was led by Lawson with 16 points with Jamar Graham adding 14 points and 15 rebounds to go with 12 points by Khyari Dunn and 10 by Jakobe Williams. John Carreker had 16 points to lead Decatur (19-6) with Luke Brooks adding 14 points (8-8 free throws) and Bryce Howson contributed 10 points.

GIRLS CONSOLATION
Chamblee 49, Lithonia 21
The Chamblee Lady Bulldogs bounced back from a tough one-point loss to Decatur in the semifinals to defeat the Lithonia Lady Bulldogs 49-21 to pick up the third seed out of Region 4-5A.

With Chamblee trailing 3-2, MacKenzie Cassidy hit back-to-back threes for the lead and Chamblee (16-6) finished the first period with a 14-0 run. Alana Azeta contributed six points to the run to a 16-3 lead.

Chamblee held Lithonia (6-19) scoreless in the fourth quarter to finish off the 49-21 win. Brianna Wood led the way with seven points in the second half.

Azeta finished the night with 17 points and 14 rebounds for Chamblee while Brianna Wood added 13 points and 16 rebounds and MacKenzie Cassidy finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Lithonia got seven points and five rebounds from Nya Wilson.

BOYS CONSOLATION
Lithonia 46, M.L. King 35
The Lithonia Bulldogs led from start to finish in a 46-35 win over the Martin Luther King Jr. Lions to notch the No. 3 seed in the Class 5A state playoffs next week.

Jamari Allen got the scoring off on the right foot for Lithonia with the opening basket of the game and he scored five total points in a 9-0 run by the Bulldogs.

Quaman Ellison pulled the Lions (18-10) to within three at 33-30 with a basket to end the third quarter but the Lions could get no closer.

Lithonia (10-16) opened the fourth quarter with quick five points on a three by Kai McAfee and another basket by Allen to push the margin out to eight points at 38-30 with 6:05 to play. Marcus Calhoun and Kelvin Kight combined to hit four consecutive free throws in the final 36 seconds to seal the win.

Calhoun finished with 13 points and nine rebounds to lead Lithonia and McAfee added 11 points. King got nine points from Kennedy Ruzvidzo.

REGION 6-4A
The Southwest Lady Panthers moved into the championship round with a convincing69-43 win over Westminster at Holy Innocent’s on Friday night in the semifinals of the Region 6-4A girls’ tournament.

Jah’Naesia Spiers fueled the win with a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double for the Lady Panthers (21-6). Camille Files and Janiya McCoy both hit for 11 points for Southwest. They move on to play Holy Innocents at 4:00 pm on Saturday.

In other girls’ action at Holy Innocent’s the Stephenson Lady Jaguars (14-11) fell to the host Lions (21-6) 62-32 to fall into the consolation game at 1:00 pm against Westminster.

The Southwest DeKalb Panthers (11-15) dropped a 63-34 decision to the host Lions (20-6) to fall to the consolation round against Hapeville at 2:30 on Saturday. The Panthers were only down 23-28 at the half but could not get the ball in the net in the second half.

REGION 5-2A
The Columbia Lady Eagles were crown Region 5-2A girls’ champions as they whipped Callaway 54-43 in the title game at Eagle’s Landing Christian on Friday. Columbia (22-5) led most of the way.

Columbia did not fare as well in the boys’ title game as Callaway rallied to win 72-71 in overtime. The No. 3 ranked Eagles (23-3) now enter the state tournament as a No. 2 seed.

In consolation action the McNair Lady Mustangs (14-14) fell 48-36 to Landmark Christian and the Towers Titans (15-12) dropped a 69-45 decision to the host Eagle’s Landing Christian squad. Both McNair and Towers enter the state playoffs as No. 4 seeds.
