The Rock Springs Christian Academy Eagles scored twice in the first half and held off the Cross Keys Indians for a 14-0 victory at Adams Stadium on Thursday night.

The Eagles (1-1) held the Indians on the first possession of the game and would go on to drive 47 yards in eight plays to take the lead for good.

Cross Keys’ David Cortes got into the backfield to tackle Joshua McDaniel for a four-yard loss to put the Eagles in a third and 13 to go at the Indians’ 30. Rock Springs converted for the first down to keep the drive alive as Brandt Washington tossed the ball down the field to McDaniel for a 23-yard gain to the Cross Keys seven-yard line.

Two plays later Washington kept around the right end for a five-yard touchdown run to put the Eagles ahead with 4:58 left in the first quarter. McDaniel added the PAT to make it a 7-0 advantage.

Following a punt by the Indians after two holding calls stalled their drive, Rock Springs would go on a 14-play, 74-yard drive to extend its lead to 14-0. Washington got loose on a fourth and five at the Cross Keys’ 39 to gain seven yards and keep the drive alive.

Five plays later Adam McGinnis got away for a 17-yard scamper into the end zone with 6:06 left in the first half. McDaniel was good again on the PAT to make it 14-0.

Cross Keys opened the second half forcing Rock Springs to punt and on the first play from scrimmage quarterback Gustavo Martinez broke a tackle and gained 23 yards to the Rock springs 26.

A pair of five-yard runs by Lous Hernandez, and a nine-yard run by Martinez had the Indians knocking on the door four years from the end zone. A pair of false start penalties backed up Cross Keys and facing a fourth and goal from the 10 the Indians went to the air. The pass from Martinez to Alan Gomez came up three yards short as the Eagles got the ball on downs.

Cross Keys got a final chance to score moving to the Eagles’ 13 when a fumble was recovered by Rock Springs at the 18 to end the threat once again.

The Indians got the ball back with 2:23 to play in the game and with some nice runs from Martinez of 7, 13 and 10 yards got Cross Keys down to the 28-yard line. A second and 15 play ended in a sack of Martinez by Tucker Daniel and sealed the 14-0 win for the Eagles.

Cross Keys falls to 0-2 on the season. Gustavo Martinez finisher with 16 carries for 124 yards in the game for the Indians.
