The Stone Mountain Lady Pirates team won their first ever Region 4-4A Team Duals title last week to earn a host role today (Friday, Jan. 13) in the GHSA Girls Team Duals Preliminaries beginning at 2:00 pm.

Eight boys’ teams also advanced including two other champions in Dunwoody (Region 4-6A) and Lithonia (Region 4-5A) to bring the total to a record nine DeKalb wrestling team to make the team duals state tournament. Arabia Mountain, Tucker and Martin Luther King advanced into the Class 5A prelims and go on the road for their first-round matches.

Southwest DeKalb and Stone Mountain earned their way into the Class 4A prelims and Columbia made in Class 2A.

Stone Mountain got a bye and will take on the winner of Campbell and New Manchester for the opportunity to advance to the Elite 8 at Buford next Friday (January 20).

Dunwoody is hosting and faces Region 8 No. 4 seed Habersham Central at 9:00 am with the winner advancing to take on the Alexander/Glynn Academy winner for the right to move on to the Elite Eight at Gainesville next Saturday.

Lithonia plays a host role in Class 5A taking on Region 8 No. 4 seed Loganville at 10 am and the winner advances to take on the Locust Grove/Chapel Hill winner for the right to move into the Elite Eight at Jones County next Saturday.

Arabia Mountain (Region runner-up) travels to Villa Rica and faces Region 8 No. 3 seed Eastside in the first round at 10:00 am. A win would pit the Rams against the Villa Rica/Eagle’s Landing winner for opportunity to advance to Jones County for the Elite Eight.

Tucker, the Region 4 No. 3 seed, goes to Ola to take on Region 8 No. 2 seed Flowery Branch at 9:00 am. The winner advances to take on the Ola/Banneker winner for the chance at the Elite Eight in Jones County.

Martin Luther King Jr. , the Region 4 No. 4 seed, travels to Jefferson, the Region 8 No. 1 seed, for a 10:00 am match. The winner advances to take on the Jones County/Jackson, Atl winner for the opportunity to move into the Elite Eight.

Southwest DeKalb was the Region 6 runner-up in Class 4A and hit the road to Benedictine (Savannah) to take on Shaw (Region 1, No. 3) at 1:00 pm. The winner moves on to face the Benedictine/Southeast Whitfield winner for a shot at the Elite Eight at Lovett next Saturday.

Stone Mountain (Region 6, No. 3) goes on the road to Central-Carrollton to match up with Cairo (Region 1, No. 2) at 10:00 am. The winner goes against the Central/Burke County winner for their shot at the Elite Eight at Lovett. Stone Mountain was the only DeKalb team to qualify both their girls and boys for the state prelims.

Columbia (Region 5-2A, No. 4) travel to Cook (Region 1, No. 1) for a 10:00 am match. The winner advances to take on the Model/Rutland winner for an opportunity to move into the Elite Eight at Jeff Davis next Saturday.
