The Druid Hills Red Devils broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the third inning on the way to a 7-4 Region 6-4A victory to complete the regular season sweep of the Arabia Mountain Rams.

The Rams (4-7, 0-2) tied the game at 2-2 in the top of third inning with the aid of a pair of errors by the Red Devils (6-4, 2-0). Deven Tallington drove in the first run with a grounder to shortstop with Jaylen Williams on third to cut the lead to 2-1. Raymond Clark’s RBI single to right score Tallington to knot the game at 2-2.

Druid Hills starter Cullen Riel got out bases loaded jam with a strikeout to send the Red Devils into the bottom of the third in a new game.

Collin Ross drew a two-out walk and moved to third on a single to right by Ian O’Connor. A wild pitch allowed Ross to get home before Arabia starting pitcher Raymond Clark got out of the inning.

An unassisted double play by first baseman Nick Akins and Riel’s fifth strikeout of the game ended a fourth inning threat by the Rams to bring the Red Devils to the plate in the bottom of the fourth.

With one out in the inning Jacquez Cullars reached on a strikeout/wild pitch and Jaden Camp was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second for the Red Devils. A fielder’s choice grounder to shortstop by Riel allowed Cullars to score and another infield grounder by off the bat of Ross with two-out allowed Camp to come around and score to extend the lead to 5-2.

Arabia Mountain would strike back in the top of the fifth as a pair of Red Devils’ errors allowed Williams and Casey Winfrey to come in to score pulling the Rams within 5-4.

The score was still 5-4 heading into the top of the sixth when the first Rams batter of the inning Colin Coefield reached on an infield single. Coefield was lifted for pinch runner Zyon Wilson who moved to second on a wild pitch.

Riel struck out the next two batters and Williams stepped up for the Rams with a single into short centerfield. Wilson rounded third on his way to home when Druid Hills’ centerfielder Jaden Camp came up throwing to the plate. Catcher Ian O’Connor caught the ball up the line and tagged Wilson as he ran by to end the inning with the Red Devils holding the 5-4 advantage.

Camp opened the bottom of the sixth with a bunt single down the third baseline and was on third following wild pitch when Riel’s groundout to first pushed him across the plate making it 6-4. Fishbein drew a walk, stole second and moved to third on an error before scoring to give Druid Hills a 7-4 advantage.

The umpires then called the game due to darkness.

Cullen Riel went all six innings for Druid Hills to pick up the win. Riel struck out seven, walked five and allowed 4 unearned runs to get the win on the mound. Arabia Mountain’s Raymond Clark took the loss in going three innings.

Arabia Mountain’s Jaylen Williams was the only batter with more than one hit in the game as he went 2-2 with a pair of walks, two runs scored and a RBI.
