Lakeside moves over .500 with 3-0 Week 2 of DeKalb baseball season.

Lakeside topped four local teams that posted perfect records in week No. 2 of the 2022 campaign with an impressive 3-0 run during this past week’s play.

Coach Brian Granger’s Lakeside Vikings knocked off Druid Hills (8-7) Feb. 21, Chamblee (4-1) February 22 and Stephenson (4-1) Feb. 26 to improve to 4-3 overall on the year.

Senior Malachi Cloud shined at the plate and as a pitcher in Lakeside’s 8-7 victory over Druid Hills Feb. 21. Cloud went 2-3 with two runs scored, one RBI and one triple on the offensive end and earned the mound decision with two scoreless innings to close out matters. Freshman Giovanny Rios Barrios (2-3; 2 RBI) and junior Devon Moyer (2-3; 2 RS) also put-up strong numbers at the plate.

Senior Max Fishbein enjoyed a strong outing at the plate for Druid Hills in a tough 8-7 loss to Lakeside Feb. 21. Fishbein went 3-3 with one run scored, one double and one stolen base.

Junior Will Berry (4 IP; WP; 7 SO; 1 HA; 2 BB), junior John Roath (2 IP; 4 SO; 1 BB; 1 ER) and senior Isaac Terrell (1 IP; 2 SO; 1 BB) combined to strike out 13 in Lakeside’s 4-1 triumph over Chamblee Feb. 22. Terrell also led the way offensively with a 2-3 outing and one RBI.

The Vikings also tallied 15 strikeouts on the pitching end in a 4-1 decision over Stephenson Feb. 26. Senior Will Tansill 2 IP; 6 SO; 2 BB), sophomore Jacob Arnberger (4 IP; WP; 8 SO; 2 BB) and sophomore Reid Brosnan (1 IP; 2 SO; 1 BB) also combined to hold Stephenson to two hits over seven innings.

Columbia picked up win No. 1 on the season with a 16-4 triumph over Stone Mountain Feb. 26. Coach Greg Barnett’s Eagles moved to 1-4 overall on the year with the victory.

Martin Luther King Jr. remained one of only undefeated teams in the county with a 1-0 showing last week. Coach Greg Boatwright’s Lions took care of Towers in impressive 6-1 decision Feb. 24, improving to 5-0 overall with the win.

Redan rounded out the list of undefeated performers from last week, as coach Alexander Wyche’s Raiders blanked Arabia Mountain to the tune of 11-0 Feb. 23 in moving to 4-0.

Chamblee received a strong pitching effort from junior Jake Potthoff in a 5-3 victory over Druid Hills Feb. 21. Potthoff came on in relief in the bottom of the third inning and allowed only three hits and one run over the final four frames to earn the mound decision. Junior David Welsh paced the Bulldog offense with a 2-4 outing at the plate.

Following two defeats, Chamblee closed out the week with a 14-4 triumph over Maynard Jackson Feb. 26. The Bulldogs pounded out 12 hits in the contest, led by Welsh (3-4; 3 RS), junior Sean O’Brien (2-3; 2 RBI), senior Leon Cohen (2-4; 2 RS) and junior Demery White (2-3; 3 RBI; 2 RS).

Tucker used big offensive outings from senior Noah Grayson (3-3; 2 RBI; 1 HR; 1 2B) and senior Amir Streeter (2-2; 2 RS; 2 RBI; 2 2B) to roll past Druid Hills by a 10-6 final margin Feb. 25.

Senior Davion Graham (2-3; 1 RBI), junior Raekwon Wedderburn (2-4) and freshman Kameron Scott (2-3); collected two hits each in Southwest DeKalb’s 6-3 loss to Westlake Feb. 26.
