The No. 8 ranked Tucker Tigers outscored the Lakeside Vikings 23-11 in the second quarter on the way to a 75-48 Region 4-6A boys win at Lakeside on Friday night.

Tucker (17-4, 9-2) had let a 9-0 lead to start the game get away as the Vikings fought back to take a 15-14 lead on two free throws by AJ Wheeler with 47.7 seconds to play in the first quarter. Sylvain Kambala’s put back of a Tucker miss with sevens left in the period gave Tucker a 16-15 lead heading into the second quarter.

Tahmar Mann opened he second quarter with a three-pointer as the Tigers used a 9-1 run in the first 1:35 of the period to take control and they never trailed in the game again.

Mann added another basket just seconds later and teammates Christopher Whitmore and Raylon Barrion with layups to extend the lead to 25-16 with 6:25 remaining in the first half.

Back-to-back dunks by Lakeside’s Ethan Sams and DJ Jones cut what had been a 13-point Tucker lead to nine (33-24) with just 1:05 to play in the half. Tucker answered with a 6-0 run to end the half fueled by three free throws by Josiah Lawson and a baseline drive by Barrion to pull back ahead 39-26 at the break.

Dominic Cooks (5 points) and Lawson (4 points) put together a 9-2 run to open the second half to push the lead to 20 (48-28) and the Vikings (6-15, 1-10) never really challenged the rest of the way.

Tucker ended up leading on the boards 42-30 for the game and led in the turnover category with 13 to the Vikings 26 on the night.

Four Tigers hit double figures in the win led by Raylan Barrion with 18 points (5 rebounds), Josiah Lawson 13 points (12 rebounds), Christopher Whitmore 12 points and Tahmar Mann 12 points. Lakeside got 10 points each from Treshon Powell (8 rebounds) and Keonte Gibbs (6 rebounds).

GIRLS: Lakeside 62, Tucker 28
A 62-28 win on Senior Night for the Lady Vikings sent the seniors out on a big note with the Region 4-6A win over the rival Tucker Lady Tigers to open the night at Lakeside.

Adia Bouldin was the catalyst for Lakeside to open the game and throughout. The senior hit two three-pointers and had an old fashioned three-point play as the Lady Vikings (10-8, 4-6) jumped out to a 15-2 lead heading into the second period of play.

Back-to-back baskets from behind the three-point arc by Ella Steed and Bouldin pushed the advantage out to 25-9 before the Lady Tigers rallied to pull within 10 at the half. Two free throws for Maliyah Davis and a three at the buzzer by Daiyah Ruger helped Tucker cut into the lead before heading to the locker room.

A 15-4 start the second half for the Lady Vikings extended the lead to 40-19 as Bouldin hit her fifth three-pointer of the game to go with a pair of baskets by Steed to push the lead towards the 20-point mark. Lakeside ended the quarter on an 11-2 run on five points form Isabella LaMadrid and four points from Bouldin.

A quick 5-0 run to start the final period of play extended the 51-22 third quarter advantage to 56-22 with Bouldin adding a short jumper to her point total and Kayla Favors added a layup.

Bouldin finished with a game-high 24 points along with 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Vikings. Ella Steed added to the Lakeside total with 15 points and team-high 11 rebounds as the Vikings outrebounded the Tigers 53-40 on the night. Kanya Hairston led the Tigers (3-17, 0-11) with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Ruger added eight points and 7 rebounds with Maliyah Davis added 9 rebounds and Hinari Yusuf 8 rebounds.
