The Chamblee Lady Bulldogs captured second in the Class 4A/5A GHSA Girls’ State Swim Meet last weekend coming up just 17 points of repeating as state champs at the Georgia Tech McCauley Natatorium.
Chamblee won the school’s first swim title last year and finished in the Top 2 for the third time in four years with their second place finish this year.
The team was led by two gold medal finishes by the 200-yard medley relay team and Kyla Maloney in the 100-yard backstroke.
It was the second consecutive gold at state by the Chamblee medley relay team as the group of Kyla Maloney, Jade Foelske, Teresa Maloney and Sophie Bell won in 2019. Kyla Maloney and Sophie Bell teamed up with Mary Adam and Evelyn Entrekin this year to swim a time of 1:48.37 to capture the gold and get the Lady Bulldogs off to a quick start in the state meet.
Maloney, who won silver in the 100-yard backstroke a year ago as a freshman, came back in 2020 to take first with a time of 54.57 to give her three

gold medals (2 on relay) as a sophomore. She also brought home a bronze in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.65.
Entrekin got to the medal stand in her first year of competition bringing home a bronze medal in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.09.
Druid Hills finished 13th overall in the girls’ 4A/5A standings with 79 points led by sophomore Anna Verlander. Verlander picked up a fourth place finish in the backstroke 56.55) just under two seconds behind Maloney. She also took sixth in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.72.
Chamblee finished 11th (117) in the boys’ 4A/5A competition led by a fourth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:30.76) and fifth place finish by Andrew Stowe in the 1-meter diving (403.00) event.
Druid Hills was 19th in the boys’ 4A/5A standings behind a strong performance by junior Idris Muhammad. Muhammad captured gold in the 100-yard backstroke in 49.91 to give DeKalb a sweep in the event. He also picked up a bronze medal in the 50-yard freestyle (21.13).

Class 6A
The Dunwoody Wildcats finished fifth overall in Class 6A for the third consecutive year with 204 points to lead the way for DeKalb.
Senior Parker Bragg was the top Wildcat finisher picking up a silver medal in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.18 finishing one spot higher than the bronze of a year ago.
Dunwoody finished fifth in the 200-yard medley relay (1:35.50), sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:29.44) and seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:16.96).
Stephenson finished tied for 18th in the boys’ meet with 14 points led by Kelsey Summers ninth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (22.02).
The Lady Wildcats finished 13th in the girls’ competition led once again by diver Lauren Davis. Davis finished second in the diving for the second consecutive year collecting 529.65 points on her 11 dives. Ashley Altera picked up a bronze in the 100-yard butterfly (57.00) and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.66).
Avery Copenhaver brought home a fifth place finish in the 50-yard adapted freestyle (49.00).
Class 7A
The Lakeside Vikings picked up their 26th Top 10 finish coming home in seventh overall with 213 points.
Zachary Zhao moved up six places from his 2019 ninth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke to third for the bronze with a time of 57.25. He also finished fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:38.09).
