Record breaking win for Sequoyah against Tucker highlighted this week’s action. Second week of Region play this Saturday.

The on-the-field 49-game losing streak came to an end for the Sequoyah Chieftains on Saturday at Adams Stadium with a 40-6 win over the Tucker Tigers in DCSD middle school football action.

Sequoyah had not won a game on the field since the first week of the 2011 season 19-14 over Redan. The Chieftains had received a forfeit from Druid Hills in 2014 in a game Druid Hills won.

Axel Briceno was a huge contributor for the Chieftains on offense as he scored all five touchdowns and all five two-point conversions in the win.

Defensively, David Franco and Brayan Bibiano led the way with five tackles and a fumble recovery each. Alejando Hernandez and Luis Hernandez contributed four tackles apiece on defense as well.

The win sets up a big clash with rival Chamblee this weekend in Region 1 action that could help determine a playoff bid.

Chapel Hill 26, McNair 0
Isaiah Scott scored three times to lead the Chapel Hill Panthers (2-1, 1-0) to a 26-0 Region 4 victory over the McNair Mustangs (1-2, 0-1).

Scott returned two fumbles for touchdowns, both caused by Jaylon Davis, and then added a 35-yard run for a touchdown early in the third quarter. JaQuavious Wallace later added a 1-yard TD run and Dwayne Hayes ran in the two-point conversion.

Aries Thomas, Jordyn Burkes and Julian Donaldson helped control the line of scrimmage from their defensive line positions with several big plays for losses in the game. Tymeer Anderson contributed an interception and Charlie Key had a big fumble return.

Champion 24, Stephenson 14
The Champion Chargers got a milestone win on Saturday at Hallford Stadium with the program’s first ever victory over the Stephenson Jaguars by a score of 24-14.

Kyle Mosley, Milton Smith Jr., and Channing Henderson scored a rushing touchdown for Champion (3-0, 1-0) in the win over Stephenson (1-2, 0-1).

Defensively, the Chargers got big plays from Wesley Brown (interception), Daniel Turpin (5 tackles), Daniel Ndukwe (sack) and Milton Smith Jr. (sack).

Cedar Grove 36, Columbia 0
Lamaze Williams opened the game scoring on a 62-yard kickoff return as the Cedar Grove Saints (3-0, 1-0) cruised to a 36-0 Region 4 win over the Columbia Eagles (2-1, 0-1).

The Saints defense got a shutout while not allowing a first down.

Miller Grove 38, Redan 16
The Miller Grove Wolverines opened Region 3 play with a convincing 38-16 win over the Redan Raiders (1-2, 0-1) on Saturday at Avondale Stadium.

Miller Grove improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in region action behind three touchdowns by Ali Dorgan and two by Ta’Jon Corbitt.

Salem 18, Lithonia 6
Jadan Baugh scored three rushing touchdowns and picked off a pass to lead the Salem Lions (2-1, 1-0) to an 18-0 Region 3 win over the Lithonia Bulldogs (1-2, 0-1).

Baugh finished with 87 yards rushing and was 2 for 4 passing for 43 yards in the game. Elijah Edwards had a solid game on both sides of the football he led Salem in rushing with 108 yards on 9 carries while adding 5 tackles and a force fumble on the defensive side of the football. Sakaun Foster had one reception for 33 yards that led to a touchdown.

Kelvon York was a force on defense with 6 tackles (3 for a loss) and Robert Wyche contributed an interception.

Lithonia was led on defense by linebacker Jason Bond Jr. with 5 tackles (2 for a loss) and a forced fumble. Safety Nasier Puryear put together a nice overall game with 2 tackles, 1 interception (24 yards), 1 punt return (54 yards) on defense and 2 carries for 19 yards and 2 catches for 23 yards on offense.
