The DCSD Middle School Basketball Championships move into the semifinals on Wednesday without three No. 1 seeds who fell in quarterfinal play on Saturday.

The Tucker Lady Tigers knocked off the No. 1 overall seeded Salem Lady Lions 40-28 in one of three games where a No. 1 seed fell in the quarterfinals of the 2019 DCSD Middle School Basketball Championships last Saturday.

Tucker (11-4) used an overall team effort to pull off the upset at Salem (13-1) on Saturday. Three players had seven points each in the game for Tucker while tough defensive play limited the Lady Lions to just 28 points.

Tucker moves on to face Stephenson (13-1) which ran past No. 1 seeded McNair (9-6) 69-11 to advance to the semifinals. The two teams face off at Tucker at 5:00 pm on Wednesday for a spot in the championship game.

The No. 1 seeded Henderson Lady Cougars (11-3) used a 21-point effort from Adia Bouldin to move into the semifinals with a 43-27 victory over the Lithonia Lady Bulldogs (12-3). Sierra Burns knocked down 12 points to join Bouldin in double figures for Henderson.

Henderson moves on to the semifinals at Stephenson to face another No. 1 seed in the Champion Lady Chargers who defeated Chamblee (6-9) 32-21 to reach the semifinals. Champion (14-1) got 13 points from Myori Pruitt, 10 from Jayla Thomas and 8 from Asia Freeman in the win.

Henderson and Champion play at Stephenson Middle on Wednesday at 5:00 pm.

One boys’ No. 1 seed fell on Saturday as the Druid Hills Dragons (10-4) upset the No. 1 seeded Cedar Grove Saints (12-3) 37-28.

Druid Hills moves into the semifinals and take on another No. 1 seed as they face Salem (13-1) which squeaked by Henderson (7-8) 51-49. Salem scored in the final 15 seconds to break a 49-49 tie. Druid Hills and Salem play at 6:30 at Tucker Middle.

The No. 1 seeded Tucker Tigers (13-2) got big games from Christopher Whitmore and Keelin Malone on the way to a 59-49 win over the Champion Chargers (9-6) on Saturday. Whitmore hit for 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Malone added 19 points and had 7 assists.

Tucker will travel to face the overall No. 1 seed in the Stephenson Jaguars (15-0) at 6:20 pm at Stephenson on Wednesday. The Jaguars remained undefeated on the season with a 65-18 victory over the Chamblee Bulldogs (6-8) on Saturday. Stephenson’s Eduardo Hicks had 15 points to lead the team followed by Christian King with 14 and Tahj Evans 11.
