Peachtree and Henderson set up rematch of regular season tilts in the DCSD MS Soccer Championships with tournament semifinal victories.
An all-Region 2 matchup is set for the 2024 DeKalb County Middle School Soccer Championships as the boys’ and girls’ teams from Peachtree and Henderson advanced to the title matches with semifinal wins on Monday night.
In the girls’ match at Adams Stadium, the Henderson Lady Cougars (6-2-0) scored a 2-1 penalty kick victory over the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs (5-2-0).
The two teams ended regulation and overtime knotted 0-0 to send the game into the penalty kick period to decide the match. Genevieve Smith and Zia Heffron made two PKs for Henderson and keeper Meryl Vaughan limited Chamblee to just won.
Henderson moves on to face the Peachtree Lady Patriots (7-0-0) who won their semifinal match with the Tucker Lady Tigers (6-2-0) 8-1 to advance. Sophia Pristach led the way with four goals for Peachtree and Miller Hendrix picked up two more. Vivian O’Brian and Xianna Yee both put one each in the goal for Peachtree.
The two teams face off in a rematch of Peachtree’s 5-0 win on April 20 with the title match set for Thursday (5/9/24) at 5:30 pm at Hallford Stadium.
BOYS SEMIFINALS
Both the boys’ semifinal matches were tight one-goal affairs with Peachtree and Henderson coming out on top to set up a rematch in the championship.
Peachtree rallied from a 2-0 deficit to Tucker (5-2-1) to tie the match and send it to overtime at Avondale Stadium. Miguel Hernandez scored the winning goal in overtime to propel the Patriots (7-0-0) into the title match.
In the boys’ semifinal at Adams Stadium, Henderson (6-2-0) and Sequoyah (5-2-0) locked into a tight 1-0 victory for the Cougars. Henderson’s Liam Ward scored just five minutes into the match and the Cougars held on for the win.
Peachtree and Henderson played in April with the Patriots pulling out a 2-1 victory in the regular season meeting that decided the Region 2 championship.
The boys’ title match is set for 7:00 pm on Thursday at Hallford Stadium following the girls’ championship.
