Tennis season came to a close for DeKalb County as the Dunwoody Wildcats playoff run ended in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of defending state champion Johns Creek in the Class 6A semifinals at Johns Creek on Thursday.

Dunwoody which won a thriller against Blessed Trinity found the going tough against the defending state champion Gladiators winning just on set in the loss.

Johns Creek won the No. 1 doubles behind the duo of Jaden Wong and Aaron Chang in a 6-2, 6-0 win over Dunwoody’s Avery Watts and David Strasberg.

Andrew Hertfelder put the Gladiators up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Dunwoody’s Weston Zlotnick at No. 1 singles.

The Gladiators clinched the match at No. 2 doubles with a 6-1, 6-3 win by Parth Mody and Kauti Manyam over Dunwoody’s Ethan Halliwell and Zach Brett.

The lone set win for Dunwoody came at No. 3 singles as Luca Ramondino won the opening set 6-4 over Francis Wu and was up a game in the second set as the match ended.

Dunwoody’s Bobby Kitchin was down a set (4-6) and 1-2 at No. 2 singles when the match ended.

Dunwoody finished 13-9 overall with three wins coming in the state playoffs to make the semifinals.
