The Lakeside Lady Vikings and Dunwoody Wildcats swim teams both collected three state championship gold medals and finished in the Top 10 of the Class 6A GHSA State Swimming Championships at Georgia Tech recently.

Lakeside finished the meet with 257 points to pick up a fourth-place spot behind Lassiter (403), Marist (304), Johns Creek (301) and bring home three individual gold medals. It was the second consecutive fourth-place finish for Lakeside and fourth consecutive Top 5 finish.

Sophia Hook put an excellent finish on her career going out with two gold medals by sweeping the 50-yard (23.47) and 100-yard (51.66) freestyle races. It gives three gold medals as the 50 race was a repeat and she also has a silver in the 50 (2022) and a bronze in the 100.

Senior Lyla Richards also capped her final season winning the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.69) and finishing with a silver medal in the 100-yard breaststroke. He has also won bronze in the IM and the breaststroke at the state meet.

Lakeside also brought the silver in the 200-yard medley relay (1:47.62) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.27) for the second year in a row.

The Dunwoody Lady Wildcats finished 17th in the team standings behind Reese Benton’s performance. Benton finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.99) and seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.45).

CLASS 6A BOYS
A fourth Top 10 finish in five season came the way of the Dunwoody Wildcats as they took sixth overall in the team standings while bringing home three gold medal wins at the Class 6A GHSA Boys’ State Swimming Championships.

The 213-point performance was fueled by the performances of juniors Luke Amerson and Luke Sandberg who both now have two gold medals and one silver in state competition.

Sandberg claimed a second consecutive gold in the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.14) and finished second in the 100 free (44.94) to score 45 points for the Wildcats.

Amerson brought home his second consecutive state gold in the 200-yard individual medley (1:38.14).

The pair then teamed up with Graham Chang and Lucas Waasdorp to swim to gold in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:33.40.

Lakeside finished 12th in the team standings with 129 points led by a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:40.52) and eighth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:29.33).
