Only seven middle school basketball teams remain undefeated after the first region games of the season.

DeKalb middle school basketball teams played their last game until after the Thanksgiving break this past Wednesday and seven teams (5 girls, 2 boys) remain undefeated following the first region games of the season.

The season resumes on Wednesday, November 29 as the schedule calls for more non-region games after the break.

Defending county titlists Champion Lady Chargers (3-0, 1-0) continued their winning ways knocking off Salem 49-25 in a rematch of last year’s championship game. Champion had three players hit double figures led by Essence Grier with 17 points who was joined by Kamaya Rivers with 11 points (9 steals) and Lailah Cox with 10. Jalina Alford had eight points (5 rebounds) and Brooklyn Smith added six steals.

Cedar Grove 48, Peachtree 17
The Cedar Grove Lady Saints (3-0, 1-0) kept pace with Champion at the top of Region 2 with a 48-17 victory over the Peachtree Lady Patriots (0-3, 0-1). Ziryah Bell put together a 25-point, 10 steals double-double to lead Cedar Grove and also contributed 3 blocked shots and two steals. Jessica Morton (6 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 block) and Melania Davis (8 points, 6 steals, 5 rebounds and 1 assist) aided the winning cause. Peachtree was led by Kai Gyles with nine points in the game.

Chapel Hill 66, Columbia 18
The Chapel Hill Lady Panthers (3-0, 1-0) are one of three Region 1 girls’ teams that remain undefeated following a 66-18 win over the Columbia Lady Eagles (2-1, 0-1). Chapel Hill had a pair of players score over 20 points in the game in Mauri Barnes with 23 (7 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 assist) and Avantey Gilreath with 21 points (10 rebounds, 1 block, 2 steals). Janise McCoy added eight points along eight assists and six steals.

Stephenson 52, Stone Mountain 3
The Stephenson Lady Jaguars (3-0, 1-0) kept pace with Chapel Hill and Druid Hills at the top of the Region 1 standings by taking down the Stone Mountain Lady Pirates 52-3. Faith Fuller and Cyncere Sims-Turner both hit for a game-high of 20 points to lead the Jags. Jayla Walton added eight points.

Druid Hills 40, Redan 0
The Druid Hills Lady Dragons (3-0, 1-0) joined Stephenson and Chapel Hill at the top of Region 1 following a 40-0 win over the Redan Lady Raiders (1-2, 0-1). Druid Hills got great play from Azelia Shell and Saniya Wright in the win.

McNair 33, Miller Grove 13
The McNair Lady Mustangs (1-2, 1-0) opened Region 1 action with a 33-13 win over the Miller Grove Lady Wolverines (0-3, 0-1). Zinae Autry had four points to lead Miller Grove.

Tucker 34, Henderson 18
The Tucker Lady Tigers (2-1, 1-0) head into the break with Region 2 victory under their belts following a 34-18 win over the Henderson Lady Cougars (0-3, 0-1). Mahlet Alemu led the Tigers offensively with 10 points while Selicia Edwards and Amunique Blyden anchored the defensive play.

Bethune 40, Freedom 34
The Bethune Lady Lions (2-1, 1-0) held off the Freedom Lady Rams (1-2, 0-1) to pick up a Region 1 victory on Wednesday night. Freedom was led by Ayana Miller (13 points, 8 rebounds), Grace Kasongo (12 points, 6 rebounds) and Destiny Swint (9 points, 5 steals).

Beacon Hill 24, Sequoyah 9
The Beacon Hill Lady Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0) knocked off the Sequoyah Lady Braves (1-2, 0-1) 24-9 to pick up a Region 2 opener victory last Wednesday. Kendale Lanier led a balanced attack with six points on the night. Leighellen Lucas, Shania Lee, Zola Vander Els and Lucy Wallace all contributed points in the win.

Chamblee 18, Lithonia 17
The Chamblee Lady Bulldogs (1-2, 1-0) pulled out an 18-17 victory over the Lithonia Lady Bulldogs (0-3, 0-1) to open Region 2 action on Wednesday.

BOYS RECAPS
Only two boys’ middle school basketball teams remain undefeated heading into the Thanksgiving break as Chapel Hill and Cedar Grove opened region play with wins.

The Chapel Hill Panthers (3-0, 1-0) join their girls’ team as undefeated on the season with a 65-11 Region 1 win over the Columbia Eagles (0-3, 0-1) on Wednesday. Three players scored in double figures including Tavaris Roberts with 12 (5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals), True Taylor 11 points (2 steals) and Brandon Daniel Jr. 10 (2 steals). The entire Panthers squad contributed to a strong defensive effort against the Eagles.

Cedar Grove 41, Peachtree 40
The Cedar Grove Saints (3-0, 1-0) survived a 41-40 squeaker against the Peachtree Patriots (1-2, 0-1) to step to the top of the Region 2 standings. Kaiden Horton hit for 15 points to lead the Patriots.

Chamblee 47, Lithonia 37 (OT)
The Chamblee Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0) opened Region 2 action by pulling out a 47-37 overtime victory over the Lithonia Bulldogs (1-2, 0-1) on Wednesday. Chamblee was led by Elison Eily with 12 points and Bobby Wood with 10. Lithonia got 30 of its points from Anthony Flournoy (15 points, 6 rebounds) and Jordan Washington (15 points, 3 assists).

Redan 39, Druid Hills 30
The defending county champions Redan Raiders (2-1, 1-0) got Region 1 play off to a good start with a 39-30 win over the Druid Hills Dragons (2-1, 1-0). Amare Medhin had 14 points (4 steals, 3 assist, 3 rebounds) led the way for Redan and Keyshawn Briggs joined him in double figures with 11 points. Trace Armstrong (6 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists) and Zaheim Silva (6 points, 7 rebounds) also contributed to the win.

Tucker 44, Henderson 34
The Tucker Tigers (2-1, 1-0) rebounded from a non-region loss to Druid Hills with a 44-34 Region 2 win over the Henderson Cougars (0-3, 0-1) on Wednesday. Sterling Pritchett continues his good play as he hit for 17 points in the win and Tim Gibbs added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Freedom 31, Bethune 25
The Freedom Rams (1-2, 1-0) picked up a hard-fought 31-25 Region 1 victory over the Bethune Lions (1-2, 0-1) on Wednesday. The Rams got nine points from Eric Howard and Aaron Goode contributed seven points and four assists in the win.

Stephenson 49, Stone Mountain 28
Kai Jackson got the Stephenson Jaguars (2-1, 1-0) off to a big start with a pair of three-pointes in the first quarter in a 49-28 Region 1 win over the Stone Mountain Pirates (2-1, 0-1). Terry Coleman led the Jaguars with 13 points while Jackson and Lamario Dorsey both hit for 10 points in the game.

Beacon Hill 45, Sequoyah 5
The Beacon Hill Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0) used a tough defensive effort to notch a 45-5 Region 2 win over the Sequoya Braves (0-3, 0-1) on Wednesday. Matthew Norman and Michael Cook capitalized on several forced turnovers to lead the Bulldogs.

Miller Grove 55, McNair 27
The Miller Grove Wolverines (2-1, 1-0) moved into a five-way tie for first in the Region 1 standings with a 55-27 win over the McNair Mustangs (2-1, 0-1).

Champion 56, Salem 37
The Champion Chargers (2-1, 1-0) are part of a five-way time in the Region 2 standings following their 56-37 win over the Salem Lions (0-3, 0-1).
