The Clarkston Angoras claimed second place at the Class 4A Boys' State Cross Country Meet in Carrollton on Saturday.

The Clarkston Angoras claimed second place at the Class 4A Boys’ State Cross Country Meet in Carrollton on Saturday.

The Clarkston Angoras moved up one spot from a year ago as they brought home the second-place trophy from the Class 4A Boys State Cross Country Meet at Carrollton High School on Saturday.

Clarkston finished runner-up to Region 6-4A rival Westminster by a score of 43-84 and ahead of third place Starr’s Mill (103). The Angoras were third behind Westminster and Starr’s Mill a year ago.

Four Clarkston runners were in the Top 20 led by senior Yosef Alemayehu (16:58.97) in 13th with fellow seniors Abenezer Woellore (17:01.68) and Claude Tusiime (17:02.63) in 15th and 16th, respectively.

Sophomore Yoseph Beserat (17:16.67) crossed in 19th and within a second later senior Jean Paul Irasubiza (17:17.92) crossed in 22nd.

Druid Hills finished 19th out of the 32 teams scoring in the meet led by seniors Owen Blount (18:34.19) in 73rd and Micah Burton (18:35.49) in 77th.

In the Class 4A girls’ race at Carrollton, the Druid Hills Lady Red Devils finished just out of the top 10 in 11th with 384 points while Southwest DeKalb came in 20th (597) out of 28 schools that scored in the meet.

Druid Hills finished 19th last year in the meet and Southwest DeKalb was 21st.

Druid Hills was led by Harley Martz (21:50.71) who finished 33rd out of 191 runners. Southwest DeKalb’s top finisher was Janiya McCoy (24:24.27) in 66th.

CLASS 5A
Chamblee picked up a pair of Top 15 team finishes in the Class 5A meet on Friday at Carrollton High School.

The Lady Bulldogs missed the Top 10 by just one point (343-342) behind Jefferson to take 11th overall in a field of 31 schools. Tucker finished 29th (844) and Martin Luther King Jr. was 30th (868).

Chamblee’s team was led by a pair of sophomores in Madeline Harron (21:37.14) in 53rd and Leanna Maender (21:37.80) in 54th.

It was the second consecutive year for the Lady Bulldogs to finish 11th overall in the team standings.

On the boys’ side, the Bulldogs ran to a 13th-place finish with Martin Luther King Jr. (6-2) in 22nd and Tucker (637) in 24th out of the 32 teams.

Chamblee senior Matthew Coates (16:43.47) led the way for the Bulldogs coming across the finish line in 18th. King’s Braylin Grier (18:03.78), a junior, finished 96th to lead the Lions.

Tucker’s Abdeleselam Kerebo (16:32.87) was the lead in Class 5A for DeKalb as he crossed the line in 12th out of 222 runners.

All the boys’ teams moved up from their finishes of a year ago. Chamblee was up from 16th to 13th, King was up from 27th to 22nd and Tucker moved up from 27th to 24th.

CLASS 6A
The Lakeside Vikings and Dunwoody Lady Wildcats matched each other in the Class 6A State Meet at Carrollton as both teams came in 15th overall.

Senior Claire Shelton keyed the Dunwoody Top 15 finish as she finished 11th in 19:29.47. The next fasted Lady Wildcat was Abby Reams (22:19.31) who finished 79th in the field of 210 runners.

The Vikings 15th place finish was fueled by a pair of Top 40 finishes out of 215 runners. Sophomore Andrew Bitsko (17:01.98) came across in 25th and senior Aidan Vrazel was 39th (17:23.91.37).

Lakeside and Dunwoody both failed to make the state meet a year ago.

CLASS 2A
The Redan Raiders came in 26th out of 31 teams scoring in the Class 2A boys’ meet with a team total of 692.

The Raiders were led by senior Zamarvian Green (19:44.15) who crossed the finish line in 80th place out of 209 runners that participated.
Redan only had two runners to participate in state last year with a best finish of 108 by then senior Lodrick Scott.
