The DeKalb Silver Streaks (white jerseys) were on attack mode against the Clayton Eagles in a sweep of two AAASP handball games at Druid Hills Middle School last Saturday.

A sweep of the Clayton Eagles last weekend has put the DeKalb Silver Streaks into the state playoffs this weekend as the No. 2 seed going 5-1 in regular season play of the American Association of Adapted Sports Programs (AAASP) handball season.

DeKalb won a 12-11 thriller in the first game as Najee Smothers scored all 12 points in the opening victory at Druid Hills Middle School on Saturday.

Smothers (the 2022 AAASP Aspire Male Athlete of the Year) did himself three points better in the second game as he tallied all 15 points in a 15-12 victory to seal the No. 2 seed for the state tournament at Warner Robins High School on Saturday (Nov. 4).

Smothers’ offensive prowess was aided by the defensive play of Joe Patterson (recognized as one of the nominees for the Aspire Most Improved Athlete of the Year Award), Cameron Smothers, Robert Edwards, William Jones, Sarah Jones and Noah Yanis.

The season ending sweep pits the Silver Streaks against the Gwinnett Heat in the second semifinal game at 1:00 pm at Warner Robins. DeKalb’s lone loss on the season was a 1-0 forfeit (due to illness) to the state tournament hosts Houston County Sharks.

Undefeated Houston County faces off with the Clayton Eagles in the 11:00 am semifinal. The winners meet in the championship game at 3:00 pm.
