The Redan Raiders will be the lone DeKalb County representative in the Sweet 16 of the GHSA State Baseball Playoffs with a 2-0 series win over Drew at Gresham Park on Monday afternoon.

Redan (18-10) opened the Class 2A first round doubleheader with a 9-0 win to take the series lead 1-0. The Raiders closed out the series with a 13-0 shutout to advance to the second round.

The Raiders will take on the Banks County/Rockmart winner which was forced to a Game 3 tomorrow. Redan would host a doubleheader on Saturday (April 29).

Class 5A
The only other team hosting today was Chamblee which dropped the doubleheader to visiting Northside of Columbus by scores of 5-4 and 8-3 to end the Bulldogs’ season.

Chamblee trailed 5-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh in the opener when they tried to rally. Base hits by Zavier Tsai and Joey David opened the bottom of seventh against Northside reliver Ward Walker. A walk to Christian Williams loaded the bases with nobody out for Luke Rohrer.

Rohrer answered the call with a grand slam over the left field fence to cut the Northside lead to 5-4. Reliever Bryce Richey settled in after the home run for a fly out and a strikeout to leave the Bulldogs with just one out to stay alive.

Chamblee’s Fabian Walker was hit by a pitch and then stole second to put the tying run in scoring position. Richey seal the win with a strikeout and give Northside (16-11-1) the 5-4 win over the Bulldogs s(13-14-1).

Northside closed out the series pulling away from a 3-3 tie with two runs in the bottom of the third on the way to an 8-3 victory in the nightcap.
