Three DeKalb County gymnasts are competing in the GHSA Gymnastics Preliminary State Meet today (April 19) vying for an opportunity to compete in the State Meet scheduled for Friday (April 21), both competitions are being held at Buford High School.

The Class 4A and 5A competition is already underway. Chamblee’s Sarah Wolf, the 2022 DeKalb County All-Around champion, and Stephenson’s Nyla Loyd, the 2023 All-Around County champion, are competing in the All-Around.

Wolf was unable to compete and defend her title in 2023 after collecting gold medals in the bars, beam and floor exercise on the way to gold in the All-Around in 2022.

Loyd won gold in the vault, floor exercise and bean and silver in the bars on the way to the All-Around title this year.

Dunwoody’s Clara Biggs, the county champion in the uneven bars, is competing in the same event today for the opportunity to compete on Friday. Biggs finished fifth in the All-Around at the 2023 County Championships.

If the gymnasts qualify for the state meet, competition will begin at Buford at 5:00 pm on Friday.
