Playing without two starters the No. 1 ranked Chamblee Lady Bulldogs took 42 shots on the way to 9-0 win over the Northside Patriots in the first round of the Class 5A girls’ state soccer playoffs on Tuesday night at North DeKalb Stadium.

Sophomore Alessandra Washington, playing without her normal help of sister Solai Washington (Jamaican National Team) and Kara Croone (ankle), got the show going early scoring on a blast from out front just one minute and 38 seconds into the game. She would go on to put up a hat trick along with an assist in the game.

Two minutes later the lead increased to 2-0 as Ansley Harrison picked up a deflection of Gabby King’s shot off the Northside goalie and put it behind the keeper for the score.

It took 11 minutes before the Lady Bulldogs (17-0-1) upped the lead to 3-0 as Washington scored with 25:01 remaining in the opening half.

King got another opportunity with 23:04 in the half and scored on an assist from the middle from Kyla Osborne to make it 4-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Cassidy Kuehne teamed up with Regan Drummond twice on corner kicks to send the Bulldogs into the half up 6-0. Drummond headed the first corner kick from Kuehne into the net and followed with a quick kick in the crowd out front off the second.

Chamblee took 25 shots in the first half and Northside goalie Huda Sayedzada had eight of her 20 saves in the game in the opening half.

Just over four minutes into the second half the lead went to 7-0 as King paid Osborne back with an assist for a goal.

Northside which had just one shot on goal in the first half, had three in the first 7 minutes of the second half. Chamblee’s Lauren Hill had taken over in goal in the second half made stops on all three shot including two back-to-back on the same play to keep the shutout alive.

Washington got her third goal of the night as she took a free kick from directly in front of the goal following a foul and blasted it just under the bar and Sayedzada could not keep it out as the lead went to 8-0 with 20:32 to play.

Sara Bowzard took a pass from Washington and scored with 16:20 to play to make the final of 9-0.

Chamblee moves into the Sweet 16 of the Class 5A state playoffs and will host Ola (9-4-2), a 2-1 winner over Ware County (11-6-1) on Tuesday, next Monday (April 17) at North DeKalb Stadium with a time to be announced.

In other Class 5A girls’ state playoff action, the Tucker Lady Tigers (7-9-1) fell behind 6-0 at the half on the way to an 8-0 loss to No. 10 Northgate (13-5-0).

The Cedar Grove Lady Saints (2-9-0) fell 10-0 on the road at Coahulla Creek (14-4-0) in the Class 3A state playoffs.
