Chamblee Bulldog Sam Brown scored two goals, one in overtime, to aid his team in a 4-2 Region 4-5A overtime win over the Cross Keys Indians on Tuesday night at North DeKalb Stadium.

Both of Brown’s goals came on penalty kicks, the second of which proved to be the game winner as he put the Bulldogs up 3-2 with 1:48 left in the first 10-minute overtime period. A penalty on Cross Keys put goalkeeper Juan Salazar in a tough position for the second time in the game as he had to try to stop the kick from point blank range. Brown hit it low into the right corner to give Chamblee the lead for good.

The Bulldogs (2-6-0, 1-0)sealed the 4-2 win in the second overtime period as he took a pretty pass out front from Jonaton Vasquez and put it in the goal with 3:50 to play in the game.

Cross Keys could not get the ball in the goal as Chamblee keeper Julian Quirk put up four saves, one of which came with 8:46 to play in the game to keep Chamblee in the lead at 3-2.

Chamblee took the early 1-0 lead on a Henry Peacock goal with 29:12 left in the first half. Benjamin Gilboa got back on defense just in time as a Cross Keys striker got loose and appeared ready to tie the game up with 26:30 left in half as he dodged quirk and had an empty net in front of him. Gilboa showed up just in time to block the kick to maintain the Bulldog’s 1-0 advantage.

Cross Keys’ Johnathan Gutierrez finally got Cross Keys (3-5-2, 0-2) on the board as his free kick from the left side curved into the top left corner of the goal to make the game all-square at 1-1 with 6:22 to play in the first half.

Quick kept the score at 1-1 at the half with a save on another Cross Keys free kick with 3:44 to play.

Brown got the first of his two goals just 23 seconds into the second half as a penalty call set him up for the first penalty kick. He converted to make it 2-1.

Chamblee held the 2-1 lead until the 10:46 mark when Eduardo Mora drove into the front of the net to score the tying goal. Two minutes later Cross Keys looked to have taken the lead, but the goal was disallowed for an offsides call.

Salazar assured the Indians of an overtime as he came out of goal to stop a Chamblee break away in the middle of the field with 5:44 to play.
