The Lakeside Lady Vikings won a thrilling 2023 DeKalb County Swimming and Diving Championship to dethrone the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs.

The Lakeside Lady Vikings won a thrilling 2023 DeKalb County Swimming and Diving Championship to dethrone the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs.

The Lakeside Lady Vikings picked up seven gold medals on the way to a 260-247 win over the defending DeKalb County Swim and Dive Champions Chamblee Lady Bulldogs on Saturday at Chamblee.

Lakeside juniors Katelyn McClintock and Sophia Hook both won two individual gold medals and teamed up with Anna Baldwin and Lyla Richards to win the 400-meter relay to seal the championship.

Lakeside was holding a 232-225 lead going into the final event, the 400 relay, and the Lakeside team made sure they took home the title by winning the event in a record setting time of 3:42.31. Chamblee finished second with a time of 3:45.22. The Lady Vikings broke a six-year-old record set by Dunwoody in 2017 of 3:42.50.

McClintock brought home the individual gold in the 200 freestyle (1:58.17) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.05). Hook captured gold in the 50 freestyle (25.18) and 100 freestyle (53.96).

Freshman Ansley Webb took home the gold in the 500 freestyle (5:24.61) for Lakeside. The Lady Vikings also collected gold in the 200-freestyle relay (1:44.83) by the team of Sadie Fuchs, Ansley Webb, Caroline Manzi and Anna Baldwin.

Chamblee set a pair of new records on its way to the second-place finish. Senior Evelyn Entrekin set a new mark in the 100 breaststroke of 1:05.14 breaking the 2011 record of 1:05.49 set by Eileen Seision of Lakeside. Entrekin added to her gold medal case with a win in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:11.08.

Chamblee’s 200-medley relay team of L.C. Smith, Entrekin, Madeline Murphy and Mena Alexandrova swam to a new meet record of 1:50.13 to break the 2019 mark of 1:50.77 set by Chamblee.

Juniors Emily and Samantha Myers went one-two for Chamblee in the one-meter diving competition. Emily won with a total of 367.20 and Samantha finished at 319.70.

The Bulldogs picked up a gold in the 100 backstroke as L.C. Smith captured the event in a time of 1:00.24.

Decatur finished third with 173 points and Dunwoody was fourth with 131.

The 2023 DeKalb Girls’ Championships produced 50 state qualifying marks.
