Champion, Chapel Hill girls improved to 11-0 on the season with victories this past Saturday.

The 2022 DeKalb County Middle School Basketball season is winding down with just two games to play this week before the County Championships Playoffs begin next week.

Girls’ action has Chapel Hill and Champion both at 11-0 after rolling to wins this past Saturday.

Chapel Hill (11-0, 7-0) leads Region 4 and kept the undefeated mark intact with a 46-3 win over Region 3 foe Freedom (3-6, 1-4). Deasia Kelly (13 points, 12 steals, 3 rebounds) led the way for Chapel Hill. Joie Files added 11 points, 6 assists, 6 steals and 5 rebounds in the win. Grace Kasongo had 5 rebounds and India Lane 4 rebounds for Freedom.

Champion 48, Lithonia 19
Champion (11-0, 4-0) kept its record unblemished with a 48-19 non-region victory over Lithonia (2-8, 0-5). A team effort led by Jhia Primrose (12 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals), Charmaine Owens (11 points, 5 assists, 6 steals), Lauren Chavis (8 points, 6 assists, 4 steals), Chance Alexander (6 points, 8 steals, 4 assists) and Ryann Chaney (6 points, 4 rebounds) led the Chargers to the win.

Stephenson 42, Cedar Grove 6
Stephenson (8-2, 4-2) won its seventh consecutive game with a 42-6 non-region victory over Cedar Grove (1-9, 0-6). Kamryn Larkin was the team lead with 12 points followed by Sarah Okorowanta (10), Cyncere Sims (8) and Sole Jefferson (6).

Miller Grove 40, Columbia 18
Miller Grove (8-2, 4-2) picked up a non-region 40-18 victory over Columbia (6-6, 3-4) on Saturday. Kaeslyn Benjamin led the way with 18 points and Liyah Croxton chipped in 11.

Bethune 27, Sequoyah 4
Bethune (7-4, 6-1), the second-place team in Region 4, defeated Region 1 entry Sequoyah (0-10, 0-9) 27-4 on Saturday. Dailyn Carreto (2 points, 2 steals), Seidy Briones (2 points, 3 rebounds) and Brenda Cruz (2 rebounds) were the top performers for Sequoyah. Taleah Thomas was the top scorer for Bethune with 17 points.

Other scores from Saturday included Chamblee (8-3, 6-0) 50-3 over Druid Hills (2-6, 1-3) and Henderson (4-6, 3-4) 30-9 over Tucker (4-7, 3-4).

BOYS RECAPS
The Tucker Tigers remained undefeated on the season to highlight Saturday’s boys’ action on the middle school front.

Tucker (11-0, 7-0) picked up a key Region 1 54-49 win over Henderson (7-4,3-3) to clinch the region title on Saturday. Jakobe Williams (23 points, 7 assists, 4 steals), Omari Fernandez (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Octavius Graham (11 points, 6 assists) were the team leaders for Tucker.

Champion 62, Lithonia 57
A 62-57 non-region win by the Champion Chargers (4-6, 3-1) over Lithonia (2-7, 2-3) has the Chargers on the right track heading into the final week of the regular season with back-to-back wins after a five-game losing streak. Carlin Cabbil hit for 21 points for Champion. Rashaan Issac came off the bench to score nine points.

Cedar Grove 60, Stephenson 43
The Cedar Grove Saints (10-1, 5-1) moved into double digit wins on Saturday with their 60-43 non-region victory over the Stephenson Jaguars (2-8, 1-4). Emanuel Green put in a strong showing with 30 points followed by Reginald Harris (14 points) and Nahzir Mitchell (10 points, 8 rebounds).

Chapel Hill 53, Freedom 42
An outstanding performance by Harlim Perine propelled the Chapel Hill Panthers (6-5, 3-4) to a 53-42 non-region win over the Freedom Rams (4-7, 3-3) on Saturday. Perine finished with 25 points, 7 assists and 5 steals for Chapel Hill.

Chamblee 48, Druid Hills 43
The Chamblee Bulldogs (9-2, 4-2) picked up their ninth win of the season with a hard-fought 48-43 win over Region 2 leader Druid Hills (8-3, 5-0). Ryan McCord and Jaydon Avery were the standout players for Chamblee in the game.

Bethune 54, Sequoyah 11
The Bethune Lions (7-4, 4-3) eased to a 54-11 non-region win over the Sequoyah Braves (0-10, 0-9) on Saturday. The Lions got 12 points each from Jaylon Phillips and Jaylen Kelly in the win. Giovanni Mucio led Sequoyah with 6 points, 3 steals and 5 rebounds.

Columbia 45, Miller Grove 33
The Columbia Eagles (10-2, 5-2) pulled away for a 45-33 non-region win over the Miller Grove Wolverines (5-6, 3-4) to pick up their 10th win of the season. Bryson Bigsby finished with 28 points and Jashawn Thompson added 12 for the Eagles.
