The Lakeside Vikings joined Chamblee in the Sweet 16 with a 3-1 victory over the Glynn Academy Terrors at Lakeside on Wednesday in the first around of the Class 6A volleyball state playoffs.

Down 2-0 in the match the Terrors (16-9) battled back from down as much as four points to claim a hard-fought, 30-28 win in the third set to force a fourth.

Lakeside (34-4-1) jumped on the Terrors 7-1 to open the fourth set as Julia Chilton got a put away on an assist from Bella Perez and a two-touch call on Glynn had the Vikings rolling.

A nice set by Perez for Anna Withee gave her a sharp angle down the net line for a kill as she added to her career kill numbers that are over 1,000 now to make it 8-3. A block by Chilton and Nora Whitehurst increased the lead to 11-4 as the Vikings continued to build on the lead going up by as much as eight along the way.

Hadley Helenbrook hit a service winner and Perez set up Withee for another kill as the Vikings up 21-12. Whitehurst got a nice set from Carly Fiorenza to give the Vikings a match point in the 25-14 fourth set win.

Glynn jumped out 17-10 in the opening set when the Vikings behind three kills by Helenbrook pulled even at 19-19. Withee set up Helenbrook for a kill to make it 21-20 in favor of the Vikings and then Helenbrook won three points while serving to extend the lead to 24-20. Glynn closed it to 24-22, but Lakeside closed out a 25-22 win to go up 1-0.

The Terrors got out in front early in the second set going up 5-1 as they blocked a kill attempt by the Vikings. Lakeside began to chip away and took the lead for good at 13-12 on a Withee point.

Another Withee kill on a set from Fiorenza made it 18-13. Glynn clawed back to within 22-20 until Fiorenza hit a shot off a blocker to give Lakeside a 23-20 cushion heading down the stretch.

The Perez to Withee combo finished off the set with another assist and kill at 25-22.
