The all-DeKalb County Area 5-5A volleyball tournament gets underway tonight at 5:00 pm as No. 2 ranked and Area 5-5A No. 1 seeded Chamblee hosts seven teams today and tomorrow.
First round games tonight begin at 5:00 pm with Class 5A No. 2 ranked Chamblee (36-6) vs. Cross Keys and Clarkston (19-15) vs. Columbia. The other first round games begin at 6:00 pm featuring Southwest DeKalb (23-8) vs. Lithonia and Arabia Mountain (29-6) vs. Miller Grove (13-16).
All winners earn a state playoff berth and advance to the semifinals at 7:00 pm tonight. The championship and consolation matches to decide the state seeds one through four are set for 5:30 on Thursday night at Chamblee.
Lakeside knocked off Meadowcreek in the opening round of the Area 7-7A tournament on Tuesday to advance to the second round.
The Lady Vikings (25-16) take on Norcross tonight at 5:00 pm at Brookwood High.
Dunwoody is playing Centennial tonight at 5:00 with the winner earning a state playoff berth out of Area 7-6A. Dunwoody (21-17) lost a tough match to Chattahoochee yesterday, but bounced back with a win over Northview later that night.
Tucker (17-17) came up one win short of the state playoffs in Area 4-6A with a loss to Lovejoy. Martin Luther King Jr. (7-27) dropped two straight matches to be eliminated.
Druid Hills opens Area 4-4A tournament play on Thursday (10/11) against Salem at Eastside. A win would advance them to Saturday (10/13).
Redan (20-14) advanced as the No. 3 seed out of Area 2-3A to next week’s state playoffs with a win over Kendrick in the consolation finals.
Stone Mountain and Towers were eliminated out of the Area 4-3A tournament with losses to Great Atlanta Christian and Lovett as their seasons came to an end.
