DeKalb County now has three teams in the second round of State tennis competition following victories by the Lakeside Vikings and Chamblee Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday.

The Vikings improved to 14-3 on the season with a 5-0 victory over Douglas County at the DeKalb Tennis Center.

Paul Roberts won 6-0, 6-0 to improve to 11-3 at No. 1 singles. Joey Burns won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Adam Banspach and Ian Thompson ran their record to 6-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Nolan Saddler finished out singles with a victory at No. 3 and the No. 2 doubles team of Aksel Kretsinger-Walters and Antoine Serre won to close out the 5-0 victory.

The Vikings move into the second round to face Northview which defeated Peachtree Ridge in opening round play. The second round match is set for 4:00 pm at DeKalb Tennis Center on Thursday (April 21).

In Class 4A girls’ action, the Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 5-0 win over Northwest Whitfield at HIT Atlanta on Tuesday.

Sophomore Olena Bulikha who was 17-0 a year ago at No. 2 singles has extended her streak with 10 wins in a row at No. 1 at one point this season had a 6-1, 6-0 win. Grace Pietkiewicz had a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles and Leeza Ershtein won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Hannah Rosen and Madeline Meer won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles and the duo of Kendalle Smith and Emilya Ershtein completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.

Chamblee moves into the second round to face the winner of No. 4 seed New Hampstead and No. 1 seeded West Laurens in the second round with a site, date and time to be determined.

The Lakeside Lady Vikings suffered a very tough 3-2 loss to Westlake to finish their season at 9-8.

The match was tied 2-2 behind the wins of No. 1 doubles Delaney Anderson and Natalie Rotolo (6-4, 6-2) and No. 2 doubles Sarah Lanier and Skye Wilson (6-1, 6-2).

Grace Rickman was down a set at No. 3 singles and battled hard to even her match before falling 7-6 in a 10-8 tiebreaker in the deciding match. Lizzy Engsberg (No. 1 singles) and Alicia Blount (No. 2 singles) dropped close matches.

In Class 5A State Tournament play, all four DeKalb teams fell out of contention. Druid Hills fell 3-0 to Kell in girls’ play and 3-0 to Cambridge in boys’ action.

In other boys’ action Southwest DeKalb dropped a 5-0 decision to Riverwood and Stephenson fell 3-0 to River Ridge.
