The DCSD digital learning ecosystem system is designed to support a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). A VLE is a set of teaching and learning tools designed to enhance students’ learning experiences by including technology in the learning process. The following tools are the 5 pillars of our VLE. These District-approved tools allow the facilitation of teaching and learning within an integrated virtual learning space. Let’s get started!
The Information Technology Division has been busy working for our students!
Our IT Technicians have prepared over 48,657 Chromebook devices located in schools for distribution to students.
Starting the week of Monday, August 3, 2020, students in grades 7 through 12 with a district-issued device will participate in a Device Wellness Check. Students will report the health of their device — it is either ready for learning or in need of repair. The goal is to connect with each student and device and this process will touch an additional 30,000. Communication is forthcoming.
The district has made a substantial investment in devices for our students.
More information is forthcoming within the next week regarding device distribution plans.
If you are in grades 7 –12 and kept your Chromebook over the summer, you must complete a Device Wellness Check by August 10, 2020. The purpose of this wellness check is to ensure that all Chromebooks are ready for learning during the 2020 – 2021 school year.
Let’s Get Started:
There are three steps to completing your Device Wellness Check:
First, check the device for physical issues that hinders you from using the Chromebook.
Next, Log into the device.
Finally, Check the Gopher Buddy to install any necessary updates.
Once you have completed the above three tasks, submit the status of your device using the Device Wellness Check steps below. This will ensure your device is ready for the first day of school:
Step 2: Click on the Help Desk icon.
(Please note: If the Device User Agreement message appears, click okay to bypass if your parent or guardian is not available to sign with you. This User agreement must be signed by both you and your parent or guardian.)
Step 3: Click on the New Ticket icon.
Step 4: Select the Chromebook option.
Step 5: Select a Chromebook Model.
Step 6: Click on the Device Wellness Check option.
Step 7: Select a Device Wellness Check issue.
Step 8: Enter information in the highlighted fields.
Step 9: Click SUBMIT TICKET.
Once you have completed the Device Wellness Check and the device has been reported broken or damaged an ITT will contact the parent or guardian for the next steps for repair.
Just like that, your device is ready for learning!
Launchpad and VERGE are both components of our virtual learning environment. Launchpad is the storehouse for accessing all of your student’s digital tools. VERGE is our learning management system where learning begins. Watch the videos below to learn how to access Launchpad and VERGE.
VERGE is the DCSD-approved Learning Management System (LMS). This tool allows teachers and students to seamlessly collaborate in a safe, virtual learning environment. With VERGE, teachers are able to personalize learning by providing students with voice and choice in their learning.
Digital Dreamers is a comprehensive technology program of the DeKalb County School District.
This program will reach every student and teacher in the district, and continue to build on the district’s vision of increasing students’ technological footprint and preparing them to be globally competitive citizens –both now and in the future.
