Barack H. Obama Elementary Magnet School of Technology
Congratulations to students Cameron Weems and Tristan Jackson for earning first-place finishes at the 2019 DCSD Technology Fair. Weems earned a first-place finish in 5-6th grade Animation, while Jackson earned a win in 3rd-4th grade Audio Production.

Cary Reynolds Elementary
Congratulations to Cary Reynolds, which recently hosted a successful Title I Family Science Night. The event hosted student families for a night filled with science based, grade-appropriate activities.

Chamblee Charter High
Congratulations to students Suleham Alvi, James Jones, and Roshan Muthugomu for earning first-place finishes at the 2019 DCSD Technology Fair. Alvi and Jones won the 11-12th grade Audio Production 11-12th grade category whereas Muthogomu won in the 11-12th grade Digital Photography category.

Chamblee Middle
Congratulations to students Martin and Aaron Gerstle for earning a first-place finish at the 2019 DCSD Technology Fair in the 7-8th grade Animation Category.

Congratulations to the Chamblee Middle Academic Quiz Bowl team—consisting of students Nethan Aresh, Elena Vega, Brandon Leonard, Martin Gerstle, Krishna Srivatsa, Gil Slomka, and Henry Seegars—which claimed 2nd place in a recent competition hosted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators.

Congratulations to the Chamblee Middle Science Olympiad Team, which earned first-place medals in the Battery Buggy category of a regional competition held at Central Forsyth High School. The team also claimed medals in Dynamic Planet, Elastic Launched Glider, Mystery Architecture, Potions & Poisons, Anatomy, Road Scholar, and Solar System.

Champion Theme Middle
Congratulations to students Georgia Taylor, Xavier Boone, and Marlee Teteh for their performance at the DCSD Technology Fair on January 26. Taylor placed first in Digital Game Design; Boone placed third in Digital Game Design; and Marlee Teteh placed third in Digital Photography.

Chapel Hill Middle
Chapel Hill was recognized as one of the top NFL Play 60 programs in the metro Atlanta region. As such, club members were special guests at Super Bowl 53 festivities, which included opening night, Play 60 Youth Day, and the NFL Experience.

Chesnut Elementary
Congratulations to Nia Alicea, Ariana Thomas, Molly Spencer, and Ainsley Racine for earning first-place finishes at the 2019 DCSD Technology Fair in the 5-6th grade Audio Production and Graphic Design categories.

Clarkston High School
Clarkston made Gov. Brian Kemp’s list of AP Honor Schools as an AP STEM School. As such, Clarkston was recognized for students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses, with at least 40 percent of exams earning a 3.0 or higher.

Congratulations to the Clarkston High School BETA Club for becoming a club of merit for 2018-2019. During the next month, Clarkston will receive a congratulatory letter and a window decal to proudly display the school’s accomplishment.

DeKalb School of the Arts
DSA hosted a successful Triumphant Women Winter Dance Concert February 8 through February 10.

Congratulations to DSA students who attended Georgia Arts Advocacy Day at the Georgia Capital on February 5.

Dunwoody Elementary
Congratulations to students Dheeral Lunaway, Kush Bhandari, Tejas Bachu, Akhil Atyam, Tanush Jayakeerthi, and Jiya Parekh for earning first-place finishes at the 2019 DCSD Technology Fair in the categories of 3rd-4th grade Animation, Device Modification, Digital Game Design, Productivity Design, as well as 5-6th grade Robotics.

Dunwoody High
Congratulations to the Dunwoody High School Speech Team for qualifying for 2019 National Speech & Debate Association’s nationwide competition. The team will compete in and attend the National Competition in Dallas, Texas in June 2019.

Congratulations to Dunwoody senior Daniel (Tsung Tsi) Lee who will perform with the DeKalb Youth Symphony Orchestra in May 2019.

Congratulations to the Dunwoody High School Fencing Team for claiming three gold medals, one silver medal, and eight bronze medals over the course of the 2018-2019 season.

Edward L. Bouie Theme Elementary
Students recently partnered with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for the “Strong 4 Life” program. As participants, students have committed to staying active, eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking more water, and limiting screen time. Representatives from CHOA conducted a physical education class, served a healthy lunch, and reminded students to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

E.L. Miller Elementary
Congratulations to E.L. Miller for their ongoing partnership with Metro RESA. The partnership has allowed the school to boost its science instruction through the Claims, Evidence and Reasoning (CER) method.

Flat Rock Elementary
Congratulations to teacher Toni Morris for being named the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ Teacher of the Year for metro Atlanta. Mrs. Morris was chosen out of a pool of candidates that spanned school districts throughout metro Atlanta.

Hambrick Elementary
Congratulations to Hambrick for implementing the new Hambrick Market program. Two families from each class were chosen as recipients of food and daily living supplies as part of the new program.

Henderson Mill Elementary
Henderson Mill has been named the recipient of a $3,000 grant from Clorox. Funds from the grant will be used to invest in the “STEAM Education through LEGOS” program. The program will see students build, test, and modify different LEGO models that explore STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) concepts.

Congratulations to Henderson Mill student Ben Kim for winning the school’s recent essay contest conducted in partnership with Hormel Foods. Kim’s essay on what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. earned him a $50 gift card. Runner-up contestants Arturo Samano, Pearla Sierra, Wynne Ly, and Dakota Fleming each earned $10 gift cards. Kim has also earned an all-expenses-paid trip to Austin, Minnesota to read his essay to Hormel CEO Jim Snee.

Kittredge Magnet School
Congratulations to the Kittredge Magnet School Reading Bowl Team for earning a first-place finish at the Metro School Division of the 17th annual Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl. As winners, the team also competed at the Division Round held March 2.

Lithonia High
Congratulations to the Lithonia High School boys basketball team for placing second in the regional championship. The team played in the state playoffs the weekend of February 16-17.

McNair High School
Congratulations to student John Webb who was named the 2A Traditional Wrestling State Champion of Georgia.

Montgomery Elementary
Congratulations to students Stella Barton and Katelynn Taborda for their first-place finish in the 5-6th grade Device Modification category at the 2019 DCSD Technology Fair. Students Catherine Hassell and Ruth Zemedhun also earned first-place finishes in the 5-6th grade Project Programming category.

Oak Grove Elementary
Congratulations to the Oak Grove GroveBots for winning the Regional Robot Design award; the Super Regional Project award; and the state championship, the Georgia Tech Innovation Solution Award. As winners, the team presented at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta on March 10 at the Science Wondershop.

Oakcliff Elementary
Congratulations to Denise Quintana, head counselor at Oakcliff, and Sandra Bass, community stakeholder, for hosting a clothing drive. Students in need received apparel from Haddad Brands, which creates apparel for such companies as Levi’s, Nike, Hurley, and Converse.

Congratulations to student Ishaan Marwaha for claiming fifth place at the DCSD Spelling Bee on February 6. Marwaha advanced to the regional tournament, which took place February 23.

Congratulations to students Anas Obaid for his first-place finish in the 3rd-4th grade Multimedia category of the 2019 DCSD Technology Fair. Students Anthony Reyes and Axel Arguelles also claimed first-place finishes in the 5-6th grade Productivity Design category.

Peachtree Charter Middle
Congratulations to students Myles Ea and Mithun Petchiraj for earning first-place finishes in the 5-6th grade 3D Modeling and Internet Application categories of the 2019 DCSD Technology Fair. Student Navnita Naveen Snitha also earned a first-place finish in the 7th-8th grade Multimedia category.

Sagamore Hills Elementary
Sagamore Hills successfully hosted its 18th Annual Sagamore Hills Math Tournament on February 2. The event welcomed more than 200 students from Region II elementary schools for a math-oriented competition. Students from Region 2 high schools, including Lakeside, Druid Hills, and Tucker were also present to help facilitate the event.

Sequoyah Middle
Sequoyah recently partnered with Cary Reynolds Elementary, Trees Atlanta, and the City of Doraville for a landscape project. Students teamed with community volunteers, parents, and school staff to plant trees and clean up the school campus.

Shadow Rock Elementary
More than 100 parents made their way to Shadow Rock Elementary on February 7 to celebrate “Bring Your Parent to School Day.”

Smoke Rise Elementary
Smoke Rise was recently named the recipient of $7,600 in grant funds during the month of February 2019 courtesy of the Dart Foundation and the Krystal Foundation.

Stephenson Middle
Congratulations to Stephenson Middle for partnering with Lady T’s Homeless Ministry. As a partner, Stephenson will help facilitate supplies to homeless community members, including crayons, food, socks, snacks, and words of encouragement.

Stone Mountain High
Congratulations to the Stone Mountain Wrestling Team, which earned three individual state titles courtesy of wrestlers Dennis McNeal Jr., Antonio Mills Jr., Daisy Gilleylen, David Ikorikwishaka, and Tyrek Johnson.

Stone Mountain recently hosted the Atlanta Navy Recruiting District who, in partnership with the school’s NJROTC cadets, set up a Burke Navy STEM Experience virtual reality exhibit.

Stone Mountain Elementary
Congratulations to student Leilani Bryant for her recognition at the most recent Stone Mountain State of the City event.

Towers High
Congratulations to the Towers Track & Field Team, which recently received a $2,100 donation from ASW Global.

Tucker Middle
Congratulations to the Tucker Middle robotics team, who earned the CORE Values Teamwork Award at the state championships at Georgia Tech.

Vanderlyn Elementary
Congratulations to students Thom Rabren, Clarence George, and Hem Metha for earning first-place finishes at the 2019 DCSD Technology Fair. Rabren won in the 3rd-4th grade Mobile Apps category, while George and Metha won in the 5th-6th grade Video Production category.

Warren Technical School
Congratulations to student Blake Walker for claiming a first-place finish in the 11-12th grade Multimedia category of the 2019 DCSD Technology Fair.
