(STONE MOUNTAIN, GA) – In 2022, twenty-five (25) DeKalb County Schools were identified as Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) Lowest 5%, CSI Promise, or Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI). Today, sixteen (16) schools were released from those federally identified school lists based on the 2023 College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) results.

“Ninety-six percent of our Horizon Schools increased their overall Content Mastery score in 2023,“ said Superintendent Dr. Devon Q. Horton. “I commend our principals and school communities for their dedication and commitment to increasing student proficiency. We will continue to provide additional above and beyond support for the schools exiting federally identified lists to ensure their performance gains continue and they remain off improvement lists.”

The following three (3) schools have been exited from the Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) Lowest 5% list:

  • Fairington Elementary School
  • Panola Way Elementary School
  • Ronald McNair Discovery Learning Academy

The following four (4) schools have been removed from the Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) list:

  • Pine Ridge Elementary School
  • Shadow Rock Elementary School
  • Salem Middle School
  • Woodridge Elementary School

In addition, nine (9) schools have been removed that were previously identified as Promise:

The criteria for the 2023-2024 CSI, ATSI, and TSI federally identified school lists have been updated to include all available 2023 CCRPI Component scores. These scores include Content Mastery, Progress, Closing Gaps, and Readiness at the elementary and middle school levels. At the high school level, the CCRPI Components include Content Mastery, Progress, Closing Gaps, Readiness, and Graduation Rate. CSI Graduation Rate schools have a four-year Graduation Rate of less than or equal to 67%.

The Georgia Department of Education has detailed information about the changes to the 2023 CCRPI and the staged approach used to identify federally identified schools HERE.

The total number of federally identified schools was reduced from twenty-five (25) in 2022 to sixteen (16) in 2023. The sixteen (16) schools that remain or are new to the lists are as follows:

CSI Lowest Performing and CSI Graduation Rate:

  • DeKalb Alternative School
  • Elizabeth Andrews High School

CSI Tier IV Support:

  • Flat Shoals Elementary School
  • Stone Mountain Elementary School

CSI Graduation Rate:

  • Clarkston High School- new East
  • DeKalb Special Education Center- new
  • Cross Keys High School
  • McNair High School

In addition, DeKalb County had eight (8) schools that entered the Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) lists for Students with Disability (SWD) for the first time:

  • Browns Mill Elementary School
  • Murphey Candler Elementary School
  • Hightower Elementary School
  • Rock Chapel Elementary School
  • Lithonia High School
  • Snapfinger Elementary School
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. High School

“The supplemental support added this school year will continue for our schools, which remained on the CSI lists for an additional two years. The newly identified CSI and ATSI schools will transition to our Horizon comprehensive support structure immediately to ensure these schools have everything they need to continue to move student achievement forward this school year,” Dr. Horton said.

“Over time, our goal is to have no schools identified on any federal improvement lists.”
