Program

FLEX Academy offers virtual course to meet every learner’s needs. Below you will find a brief description of our various virtual learning course formats.

  • For the 2021-2022 School Year, FLEX Academy High School welcomes DCSD high school students (grades 9-12) to participate in full-day virtual learning as an alternative to in-person instruction. FLEX Academy High School courses are full-length courses that are taken as the child’s full school day schedule. FLEX Academy High School students must fully engage in asynchronous (online without live daily direct instruction) learning.
  • FLEX Academy High School courses are taught by certified teachers. FLEX Teachers engage with students on an ongoing basis to provide remediation, re-direction, supplemental instruction, progress monitoring, and instructional feedback.
  • Although flexible pacing is available to meet diverse learning needs, all content, activities and assessments must be completed in FLEX Academy High School courses.
  • All courses must be approved by the local school through the student advisement process. No cost will be incurred by parents/guardians to register for FLEX Academy High School.
  • Student takes full-length courses during the school day as part of their daily schedule. FLEX AHEAD During the Day students must fully engage in asynchronous (online without live daily direct instruction) learning.
  • Once registered, students report to location designated by the local school (e.g. media center or computer lab) during specified periods to access the virtual course.
  • FLEX During the Day courses are taught by certified teachers. FLEX Teachers engage with students on an ongoing basis to provide remediation, re-direction, supplemental instruction, progress monitoring, and instructional feedback.
  • Although flexible pacing is available to meet diverse learning needs, all content, activities and assessments must be completed in FLEX AHEAD During the Day courses.

  • Student takes full-length courses beyond the school day. FLEX AHEAD Beyond the Day students must fully engage in asynchronous (online without live daily direct instruction) learning.
  • Once registered, it is recommended that students set aside a designated time and location to complete their virtual course outside of school.
  • FLEX Beyond the Day courses are taught by certified teachers. FLEX Teachers engage with students on an ongoing basis to provide remediation, re-direction, supplemental instruction, progress monitoring, and instructional feedback.
  • Although flexible pacing is available to meet diverse learning needs, all content, activities, and assessments must be completed in FLEX AHEAD Beyond the Day courses.
  • In limited circumstances, there may be a tuition cost to register for FLEX Beyond the Day courses that is covered by parent or guardian of student. Tuition can be paid at our administrative office using cashier’s checks or money orders made out to FLEX Academy. Please click
here to schedule an appointment for tuition payment. Student access to course content will only be granted once tuition is paid in full.
  • All courses must be approved by the local school through the school student advisement process.
  • Restore Credit Recovery courses provide high school students an opportunity to recover credit in a class that they have previously attempted and failed with a grade of 55-69. Students who do not successfully complete these courses or fail to login daily may be dropped from the course.
  • Students must take credit recovery courses after the school day.
  • There is no cost for FLEX Restore courses.
  • For the Spring 2022 Semester, FLEX Academy will continue to leverage our partnership with Georgia Virtual to meet student credit recovery needs as necessary. See   Georgia Virtual School’s Credit Recovery program for more information.
  • NCAA Considerations: Athletes should not use FLEX Restore as a virtual course option due to NCAA regulations for approved coursework.
FLEX Academy provides summer school opportunities for DeKalb County School high school students in grades 9-12. FLEX Academy offers access to virtual courses anytime, anyplace, and at any pace to meet every learner’s needs. Based on the advisement process, the local school counselor submits a request to enroll a student in FLEX Academy’s summer courses. All courses follow the district’s curriculum at a glance and academic calendar for consistency and equity. FLEX offers summer courses for students needing to recover credit (FLEX RESTORE) and courses that students have not previously taken (FLEX AHEAD). For details regarding registration, payment, and course dates for FLEX Summer School courses, please visit the Summer School tab.

  • FLEX Restore Classes provide high school students an opportunity to recover credit over the summer in a class that they have previously attempted and failed with a grade of 55-69. Students who do not successfully complete these courses or fail to login daily may be dropped from the course.
  • FLEX Ahead Classes provide high school students an opportunity to take classes that they have not previously taken in a condensed summer timeline. Students must be highly motivated to complete FLEX Ahead courses as they are full-length courses and self-paced. Prior academic performance in the selected subject should be strongly considered when choosing to enroll in FLEX Ahead courses.
For summer 2021, FLEX Ahead courses will only be available to students in grade 12.
If a course is not offered by the FLEX Academy, the district will continue to leverage our partnership with Georgia Virtual School to provide full course credit for the student. Only “During the Day” full credit courses will be funded and approval will come as a result of student advisement at the local school.  See the Georgia Virtual School program for more information.
