Arabia Mountain High
Congratulations to Arabia Mountain student Richard Gladney for earning the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. Gladney received the distinction after earning 31 merit badges and completing a service project.

Briarlake Elementary
Briarlake’s BES Track Club recently participated in the Peachtree, Jr. race on May 5. Collectively, the club earned the third highest score in the competition and awarded $1,000.

Cedar Grove High
Congratulations to Cedar Grove High’s track team for claiming the state championship for the fourth consecutive year.

Chamblee Charter High
Congratulations to Chamblee Charter’s girls golf team for claiming 2nd place in the DCSD Golf Tournament. Team member Tiffany Li was named the team’s individual winner.

Congratulations to students Eric Xu, Jake Potthoff and Daniel Mata for claiming 3rd place in the National History Day contest at Mercer University. The students’ entry, “Nazi Germany’s Economic Evolution: Conflict and Misguided Compromise 1918-1846,” earned them national entry in June at the University of Maryland.

For the second year in a row, Chamblee Charter was ranked favorably by US News & World Report’s Best High Schools in Georgia. Chamblee Charter was ranked 14th in the state.

Chesnut Charter Elementary
Chesnut Charter recently hosted its 10th annual school-wide musical on May 3-4. The school performed Peter Pan, which was dedicated to the late LeeAnn Brunson.

Chesnut Charter also hosted a Career Day event on May 4. More than 25 parents, STEM partners and community partners participated in the event, which lasted three hours.

Congratulations to Chesnut Charter student Chyna Paredes, who participated in the 2018 Special Olympics Georgia State Summer Games on May 18 through May 20. Paredes swam in the freestyle and backstroke events.

Clarkston High
Congratulations to Clarkston High’s Air Force JROTC, which received the Distinguished Unit Award with Merit, Distinguished Unit Award, and Outstanding Organization Award at a recent competition.

DeKalb Academy of Technology & Environment
Congratulations to DATE’s STEAM Dream Team and its internship in partnership with DeKalb County’s Department of Watershed Management. The internship will provide DATE’s STEAM Dream Team with an interactive, hands-on curriculum.

Dresden Elementary
Dresden Elementary honored the accomplishments of its parents in the Atlanta Parent School Partnership Program, a 12-week program sponsored by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, on April 27.

Dunaire Elementary Congratulations to Dunaire students for receiving multiple individual and club awards at a recent DCSD 4-H Club awards ceremony on May 4 at the Manuel Maloof Building. Students Brianna Powell, Caydence Powell, Mekedes Debebe, Tyquavious Caldwell, Nawkree Wah and Htoo Wah claimed at least one first-place award each.

Dunwoody Elementary
Congratulations to Dunwoody fourth grade student John Cousens for winning a writing contest hosted by the Dunwoody Women’s Club. Cousens’ victory grants him entry in an international competition, a monetary reward, as well as a special certificate.

Congratulations to Dunwoody students Jaeden Brown and Bhavya Shah for claiming third place at the 2018 Georgia Student Technology competition in Macon, Ga. The students placed third out of more than 1,000 entrants.

Elizabeth Andrews High
Congratulations to Elizabeth Andrews student Alona Bush, who received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for her participation in the Congressional Art Competition.

John R. Lewis Elementary
Congratulations to students Jasmine Rodriguez, Ingrid Rangel and Elsy Vega-Soto for winning the first K-2 Spelling Bee at John R. Lewis.

Kingsley Charter Elementary
Students at Kinsley Elementary recently used Georgia wildlife artwork to raise more than $2,000 for the Dunwoody Nature Center. Students created collages depicting wildlife before selling them at a silent auction April 20 through April 30. Students learned about local wildlife as well as wildlife conservation and STEAM-based skills. All 23 collages—one for each class—were sold at the auction.

Marbut Elementary
Congratulations to Marbut Elementary on being named the winner of the 2018 Visionary Award, which recognizes a local school, educator, or PTA organization that goes above and beyond in addressing or resolving community issues and concerns.

McNair High
Congratulations to McNair High’s Air Force JROTC program, which earned a Distinguished Unit with Merit Award for the 2017-2018 school year. The award is the second highest award a JROTC program can receive. The program also earned an Outstanding Organization Award as well as a Distinguished Unit Award.

Sequoyah Middle
Congratulations to Sequoyah Middle students for receiving multiple individual and club awards at a recent DCSD 4-H Club awards ceremony on May 4 at the Manuel Maloof Building. Sequoyah Middle School’s 4-H Club was named Club of the Year for 2018.

Stone Mountain Elementary
Students at Stone Mountain Elementary were recently invited to a Free Book Giveaway event sponsored by the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. First, second and third grade students were gifted five books each for their home library.
