  • Yes. The parent or legal guardian of the child must be a current resident of the DeKalb County School District at the time of open enrollment and thereafter.
  • Yes. If you applied in 2019, you can use the old username. If you are a new applicant, then you must create a new account.
  • No. All applications and required documents must be submitted online. All documentation will become the property of the DeKalb County School System. The exception is the audition application packets for Arabia Mountain Magnet Program, International Baccalaureate Programs (grades 9-12), D.E.S.A. (grades 4-7) and D.S.A. (grades 8-12) for which applicant must submit both online school choice application and the paper audition packet.
  • Yes. You may apply for any program that your child is eligible for based on the published eligibility criteria. However, there is a selection limit for each school choice program.

  • If needed, additional lotteries will be held.
  • Late applications will be accepted from 4:01 p.m., February 7, 2020 until 4:00 p.m. August 31, 2020. Late applications will be reviewed and processed only if additional seats are available after the initial lottery is held and all selected students and wait list students are placed. The School Choice Office will contact parents regarding placement of late applicants. Selections will not be made after 4: 00 p.m., August 31, 2020, except for PreK seats as and when they become available in Coralwood and Theme elementary schools.
  • After being selected from the lottery or waiting list, parents must visit the selected school’s website or call the school to find out the deadline date for school choice registration at the school. If parents do not register by the deadline set by the school, the seat will be decline and offered to the next student on the waiting list.
  • Seats will be filled until 4:00 p.m., August 31, 2020.

  • Students are selected by a random automated lottery or essay/interview (IB Prep & IB DP) or audition (DESA & DSA) based selection processes depending on the grade level and program.
  • All notifications will be sent by email ONLY, which is also visible on the Application Dashboard Message Box. Student information will not be provided by telephone. After 5:00 p.m. on the day of the lottery parents should log on to https://www.yourchoicedekalb.org/apply/ and select “Dashboard” or open their email box to check selection results.
  • You may log into your application to make changes, however the last date to make changes is February 7, 2020.
  • Go to the internet and type the question- How to create an email account?
  • Follow the steps on the screen.
  • Write down the email address and password for future reference.
  • Using a desktop or laptop computer log in the School Choice online application website at https://www.yourchoicedekalb.org/apply
  • On the welcome page, select “Start a new application for another student”.
  • Read Requirements & Policies.
  • Answer all questions listed on the Begin Application webpage.
  • Click the “Continue to Application” button to begin completing the application process.
  • An Application Progress box located left of the application will check the completed section of the application. You may click a title in the “Application Progress” box to return to that section of the application.
  • Please type the answer to each question if the cell is not populated. If the cell is populated, please review the information for accuracy. If the information is not accurate, you may retype the information or contact the School Choice Office at 678.676.0035 for application support.
  • Click the “Continue” button to go to next page, “Cancel” button to discontinue the application, or “Save and Exit” button to pause the application and submit the completed application packet with required documents by 4:00 p.m., February 7, 2020 or the application will be considered late.
  • Complete each page until you reach the final application step.
  • Review and verify each section of the application.
  • Before submitting make sure all information and selections are correct.

  • Notes to parents regarding the application status will also be posted on the Dashboard if needed.
  • The DeKalb School of the Arts (elementary and high school) applicants are required to also complete the audition application available at /school-choice/forms-and-brochures/
  • Applicants eligible for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme must complete an additional paper application which are available to download and print from /school-choice/forms-and-brochures/
  • Parents/guardians must login to the https://www.yourchoicedekalb.org apply to accept or decline placement in the selected program by the deadline listed in the selection notification sent by email.
  • If seat placement offer is accepted, the parent/guardian must register to enroll the student in the new school by the registration deadline listed on the school’s website to avoid forfeiture of the seat placement offer.
  • Using a desktop or laptop computer, log in the School Choice online application website at https://www.yourchoicedekalb.org/apply Use the toolbar at the top of the screen and select Dashboard.
  • Click the tab labeled with the student’s name to review the application status for the selected program(s).
  • At the bottom of the screen, select “View Confirmation” to access the Application Progress box.
  • In the Application Progress box, click the title of the section to access the data to be edited.
  • Save and exit after editing one or more sections of the application or continue to view each page until the final page.
  • Go to the final page to provide your initials to validate the edited application information.
  • Log in the School Choice online application website at https://www.yourchoicedekalb.org/apply
  • Using the toolbar at the top of the screen, select Dashboard.
  • Click the tab with student’s name to review application status for the selected program(s).
  • The online application will not accept a grade level retention. If your child is not a current DeKalb County School District student, please submit an email to school_choice@dekalbschoolsga.org providing notice from school that the retention is approved. If your child is currently a DeKalb County School District student, please email documentation to school_choice@dekalbschoolsga.org from the school indicating retention is approved OR request the Principal to send the approval document to the Director of School Choice.
  • If you wish to continue your application, please do so by changing your child’s birthdate to the year prior in order to be accepted by the application. After receiving your documentation we will adjust to the correct year on your application during final processing before the selection process begins.
  • Yes. An email address and password are required to create an online account.
  • All programs are offered including Arabia Mountain High School Career Technology Pathway & Magnet Program, Charter, Employee Student Transfer Request, Coralwood/Hawthorne Partnership, Ronald McNair Discovery Learning Academy, House Bill 251, Immersion Dual Language, International Baccalaureate, Magnet, Montessori, Senate Bill 10 & Theme.
  • The most current DeKalb County transportation policy will be followed for the School Choice Programs. During the 2020-2021 school year, students selected for a Magnet program seat or Arabia Mountain High will be provided satellite/shuttle transport service. The transportation schedule is available on website: /school-choice/transportation/. Theme elementary school students are provided neighborhood transportation. All other programs do not provide transportation.

If a deadline falls on a date that DCSD administrative offices are closed for business, the document will be considered due on the first business day after the deadline. The District reserves the right to change the timeline, as necessary. No exceptions will be made for missed deadlines.
