Arabia Mountain High
Congratulations to Arabia Mountain’s orchestra program for its participation in the DeKalb Honor Orchestra. Fifteen Arabia Mountain students participated, with Temisan Nicholl sitting as principal bass, Sharese Lucas sitting as principal second violin, and Noah Wasi sitting as assistant concertmaster.

Avondale Elementary
More than 120 parents and community members came together at Avondale Elementary School on November 3 to build a new playground. The playground arrived courtesy of KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit that helps communities provide adequate playground equipment to students. Congratulations to parents Katrina Helz and Anna Bramley for completing the application and making the project a reality.

Bethune Middle
Congratulations to Bethune Middle’s football team for winning its first countywide middle school football championship.

Cedar Grove High
Congratulations to Cedar Grove High’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter. Students Nadia Pippens, Simone Jones, Autumn Eberhart, Hailey McCombs, Kyla McKoy, Ja’Ree Swanson and Leandra Rowe each completed leadership tracks at the Fall Conference in Athens, Ga.

Chamblee Charter High School
Congratulations to Chamblee Charter student Lucy Adelman, who recently had an op-ed article posted on CNN.com regarding a recent shooting. Adelman’s article can be found in its entirety on the CNN website.

Clarkston High School
Congratulations to Clarkston student Ayoko Kangi for being chosen as the 21st Century Leadership Connect Student of the Month. As an honoree, Kangi received a $25 iTunes gift card.

Congratulations to the Clarkston High School Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams who both qualified for 5A state championship. The Clarkston High School Boys placed 8th overall in the state championship. Congratulations to student, Piyo Michaele, who placed 9th overall.

Congratulations to the Clarkston High JROTC program, which helped raise more than $1,200 as part of the annual Empty Stocking Collection Fund. The funds will benefit Clarkston’s partner, Allgood Elementary.

Columbia High
Congratulations to Columbia High’s Future Business Leaders of America members Janelle Meadows, Nika Wood, Kierra Mason, and Hassanatou Diallo for completing leadership sessions in Athens, Ga., as part of the organization’s Fall Convention.

Huntley Hills Elementary
Huntley Hills celebrated Hispanic Heritage Night on October 18, honoring Hispanic culture and customs through authentic Hispanic dishes, clothing, memorabilia, and performances from the school step team.

McNair High
Congratulations to McNair High’s marching band, which performed at the Atlanta Hawks’ first home game at State Farm arena in October.

Miller Grove Middle
Congratulations to Miller Grove Middle for earning a grant from the Morehouse School of Medicine for the second consecutive year. The school will use the funds to complete a campus beautification project and purchase additional Chromebooks for students.

Murphey Candler Elementary
Congratulations to Murphey Candler’s Garden Club, which helped secure a $2,000 grant from the Georgia Shape School Physical Activity & Nutrition grant program.

Panola Way Elementary
Panola Way recently hosted a “Fathers Rise Up,” event in partnership with the entire Miller Grove High School cluster. Male stakeholders gathered together at Panola Way to discuss ways in which to better their community.

Rock Chapel Elementary
Congratulations to Rock Chapel Elementary’s team of staff and teachers. Through their efforts, the school was gifted $1,000 courtesy of Martin Marietta’s Lithonia plant.

Southwest DeKalb High
Congratulations to Southwest DeKalb High head football coach Damien Wimes, who was named the 5A Football Coach of the Year, as voted upon by the league’s coaches.

Towers High
Towers High recently hosted a successful “Dads & Donuts” event. Male community members gathered at the school to discuss successful study habits, the importance of being involved, attendance, graduation, and bonding tactics.

Wynbrooke Theme Elementary
Congratulations to Wynbrooke teacher Janee Oliver for being appointed to the Georgia State School Superintendent Teacher Advisory Council.
