Academic Walks

The Portrait of a Graduate Academic Walks initiative is a structured process designed to assess and strengthen student learning outcomes across the DeKalb County School District (DCSD).

Launched in August 2025, Academic Walks begin with the principal welcoming the visiting team and then the visiting team conducting classroom observations to gather evidence of student engagement and learning in action.

Each visit concludes with the superintendent interviewing a student to gain firsthand insights about their academic journey and experiences connected to the Portrait of a Graduate. The district team then meets weekly to debrief, share key takeaways, and discuss trends across schools.

Designed to be both efficient and impactful, Academic Walks provide valuable data and observations that inform continuous improvement and support stronger outcomes for all DCSD students.
