Greetings DeKalb County School District (DCSD) Family,
I hope everyone had a great, safe holiday weekend. On September 2, 2021, the district made the decision to close the Oak View Elementary School building for 10 days due to COVID-19 cases and exposure. The decision to close the Oak View building was based on multiple factors. DCSD actively reviews the health data and guidance and consults with the Department of Public Health and the Medical Advisory Committee to inform decision-making pertaining to the health and safety of staff and students. No single condition or data point determines a local school’s operating status.
We ask that our students, teachers and staff members continue to follow the COVID-19 Health and Safety guidelines and protocol to help reduce the spread of the virus. Please continue to wear your masks, wash your hands and socially distance. For more information on the district’s closure procedures, please click here.
Comprehensive Master Plan Town Hall
Thank you to those who virtually attended the Comprehensive Master Plan town hall meetings. We appreciate everyone’s input as we addressed the Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) and facility improvements. Your feedback is very important to the district. Please click here to view recordings of the meetings. The district will host a special session to address general trends and outstanding questions. Please look out for dates and times.
This week, I want to shine a spotlight on a young, bright student at Briarlake Elementary school—second-grader Vienna Hardy. According to her teacher, Ms. Cerchezan, Vienna is an amazing student and young lady. She is intelligent and reads on a high level. Her favorite book is the encyclopedia!
Ms. Cerchezan said Vienna puts in 110 percent effort into everything at school. She is very intuitive and wise beyond her years, she has one of the kindest, gentlest hearts of any child, and she is caring and humble, according to her teacher. Vienna is a bright star at Briarlake and I am proud to shine a spotlight on this outstanding student!
Every Tuesday on social media, I recognize a member of my team. Last week, I recognized Executive Director of Student Advancement Manomay Malathip. I am privileged to work alongside Ms. Malathip. She’s a phenomenal leader committed to supporting our scholars academic and career goals. Thank you for all you do to promote achievement and inspire educational excellence!
Accreditation Community Survey
DCSD is currently undergoing an accreditation renewal process. Part of this process is the collection of feedback from stakeholders. We invite you to participate in the Family and Community Stakeholder Survey. The results of this survey, along with other stakeholder artifacts, will be used in the district’s accreditation renewal process.
The Family and Community Stakeholder Survey is available in the following languages: Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, Burmese, Chinese, English, French, Hindi, Napali, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Telugu, Tigrinya, and Vietnamese. The survey is confidential and will take approximately ten minutes to complete.
